Reporting to the Manager, Retail & Hospitality Service, the Hospitality Service Assistant will be responsible for the set-up, teardown and support of ROM's on-site, produced events. The Hospitality Service Assistant will adhere to established practices for ROM Programs, Events and Commercial Services, as well as Toronto Board of Health and AGCO by-laws and guidelines regarding food/beverage service standards.
The servicing of ROM on-site events includes moving furniture to facilitate event and program set up and tear down, distribution & retrieval of beverages to/from bars, assisting Event Service team members with client, guest, contractor and suppliers building access and navigation; and facilitating contractor garbage, compost, and recycling procedures during tear down activities. It also includes receiving & sending deliveries and shipments of event related goods and services.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Transports furniture, event related materials and beverages for the purpose of event/program set-ups & teardowns in a safe and efficient manner.
- Helps maintain beverage and event related materials inventory and complete all required documentation as required and as directed by the Manager.
- Reports any observed damage or changes to event related equipment while performing routine functions.
- Liaises with Hospitality Service team members and Manager to establish appropriate and required event service project support work/deadlines.
- The Hospitality Service Assistant will be assigned regular duties to maintain event service storage areas, participate in inventory processes and other duties as deemed necessary by the Manager. Ensures all equipment inventory quality, quantities maintained with a concern for meeting ROM event needs, maximizing event revenues, safety of ROM personnel
- Utilizes Word, Excel, GroupWise, MS Office, Delphi computer software and other emerging technologies to open and close client event consumption reports, standard inventory reports and any necessary client file updates.
- Other duties as assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- A minimum of a two-year Community College diploma in retail, hospitality add/or sales management.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ but less than five (5) years’ related work experience in the hospitality industry as a banquet service worker.
- Must be physically able to perform the duties of the job including lifting heavy furniture, event related materials and beverages. This job requires kneeling and bending for the purpose of moving furniture and event related materials.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret floor plans, drawings, and event related specifications.
- Demonstrated judgement and initiative and ability to communicate effectively to work independently and as part of the service team to work with clients and guests.
- Service-related knowledge of Ontario Liquor sales and consumption legislation and Board of Health by-laws to ensure the safety of all event patrons and limit the liability of the Royal Ontario Museum.
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills. Possess the skills and ability to implement the appropriate protocol for all events as well as the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks within a specific time frame.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word). Experience with beverage inventory/control software systems (Free pour, Shopify).
- Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends on a regular basis to work at events and or meet deadlines.
- French language skills would be an asset.
**SALARY AND TERMS**
**Start Date**:As soon as possible
**Hours of Work**: Up to 35 hours per week

**Hourly Rate**:$24.96 - $28.53 per hour
**Probationary Period**:6 Months or 420 hours, whichever comes first
**Number of Hires**: 6
