Reports To: Manager, Category and Shopper Strategy

Location: Markham, ON

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibility of this position is to participate in the development of key components of JM Smucker’s Aisle/Category Leadership capabilities. This person will work closely with the Manager, Category & Shopper Strategy in the development of aisle/category specific or retailer-oriented insights, and category leadership materials. The position is expected to be a go-to category expert, responsible for providing in-depth category and shopper centric insights, trends, and solutions.
- Develop engaging shopper centric insight presentations that intertwine multiple data sources including category strategy decks to develop and demonstrate category and shopper expertise across all Smucker categories.
- Develop actionable selling stories using fact-based information to influence the thinking of customers by providing non-biased insights, trade strategies, and effective category plans to drive business results
- Attend and present at customer & sales meetings as appropriate.
- Leverage our knowledge of our categories, consumers and shoppers in building opportunities during joint business plans (JBPs) or category reviews
- Uncover and develop actionable category opportunities and insights from both our sales and our customers’ perspectives (for example supporting listings, optimizing assortment, POGs)
- Maximize the use of existing and new insight tools - comprehensive working knowledge of new tools and capabilities (e.g., Kantar) as well as shopper centric mentality
- Build strong internal relationships at Smucker; the analyst will be a key member in cross-functional sharing and developing deliverables with trade/strategy teams, sales teams, and marketing teams.
- Integrate Category Management approach and analysis into every product launch/line extension.

Support Cross Functional Team
- Collaborates with Sales, and Category & Retail Management team to drive Aisle and Category Leadership initiatives to the customer
- Collaborate with Trade and Marketing teams to support innovation launches and internal business plans
- Provide category consultation at internal and external meetings to provide context, direction, and guidance regarding potential actions
- Continuous two-way communication with the Category Retailer team members to ensure that:

- 1) Each account team has access and can leverage the insights and strategy created, and
- 2) The strategy team is updated on events at the retail level that should either support or indicate trends/findings/challenges to be further investigated

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education
- Bachelor’s Degree required

Experience
- 2+ years of Shopper Insights and/or Category Management experience required
- Experience in retailer relations a plus

Other
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to craft effective and actionable stories both verbally and visually
- Strong technical skills in Excel,
