Broken Islands Lodge is a remote kayaking lodge on Vancouver Island’s west coast. **Overview**
We are seeking Banquet Cooks for the 2025 season who bring professionalism, reliability, and a passion for culinary excellence to our team. This role involves preparing delicious meals for guests and staff, working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient workspace.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
- Prepare meals for guests and staff, serving up to 62 plates per service, including breakfast, lunch, appetizers, dinner, and dessert.
- Communicate promptly with management regarding supply needs, inventory, and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure efficient meal service.
- Assist with meal prep, dishwashing, and general kitchen duties as needed.
- Rotate between shifts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner preparation (with 3 cooks rotating through: 1 week of breakfast, 1 week of dinner, 1 week off).
**What We’re Looking For**:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in banquet or line cooking.
- Valid Food Safe Level 1 certification required.
- Proficient in all areas of kitchen work, including food prep, baking, grilling, sautéing, soup and sauce making, and commercial dishwashing.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
**Meal Schedule**:
- Breakfast: 7:00 - 9:00 AM
- Staff Lunch: 12:00 - 12:30 PM
- Appetizer Hour: 2:30 - 4:00 PM
- Dinner: 5:30 - 6:30 PM
- Dessert: 6:30 - 7:00 PM
**Working hours**:
Kitchen hours are typically 5:30 - 8:30 AM, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, and 2:00 - 8:00 PM. Some days may require more hours, others less, depending on task completion and efficiency.
**Compensation and Perks**:
- $160 per day, plus tips.
- We offer a $10 per day bonus for every day worked, payable at the end of the season, as a thank-you for staying on with us for the full season.
- Food and accommodations provided while on shift.
- Rotation: Two weeks on-site, one week off (food and accommodations not provided during off weeks).
- Staff access to kayaking, canoeing, & paddleboarding equipment and opportunities to explore the surrounding area during downtime.
- Discounted rates for immediate family stays at the lodge.
**Season Dates**:
- This position runs from May to early October. Priority will be given to applicants who can commit to the full season.
