The Case Costing team works collaboratively with clinicians and administrators in order to advance innovative and proactive analysis of clinical and financial data for evidence based (or evidence informed) decision making. The Case Costing team accumulates, aggregates, and analyses patient utilization data and converts it into meaningful information to enable quality improvement, performance monitoring, and program evaluations. Case Costing is responsible for reporting and analysis of costing data for both internal and external inquiries.
**The MIS/Case Costing Analyst will -**
- Coordinate the collection, classification, and reporting of all statistical data required by OHRS
- Provide broad support in all aspects of the case costing process including system/database management and processing of clinical, utilization, and financial data, reconciliations and validation of data, and the development and deployment of standardized or ad-hoc reporting of costing information
- Ensure that functional centres, financial and statistical account usage is MIS/OHRS compliant
- Review OCDM results with an eye to optimizing TB reporting for MIS/OHRS compliance and benchmarking
- Analyse variances between OCDM and OCCI submissions and improve consistency between them
- Coordinate the collection, organization and loading of feeder department data extracts to ensure timely availability of clinical utilization records, CIHI datasets and financial tables;
- Review and audit the clinical and utilization data using modelling and sound data quality management techniques to ensure accurate cost results are achieved
- Assess and provide continuous improvements in data quality to advance costing processes and utilization data conforms to OCC, MOHLTC reporting standards, and alignment with OCDM allocations;
- Identify opportunities to work with the feeder departments to integrate data quality into the data loading phase to reduce processing errors and improve efficiency of processing time;
- Adopt best practices where appropriate by utilizing knowledge within Unity Health with OCC peers, and the Ministry
- Responsible for the collection of Statistical data mandated by the Ministry of Health, and those considered important for internal monitoring purposes
- Subject matter expert on statistical requirements, internal and external
- Responsible for the review of statistical data received from hospital programs for potential data quality issues and any follow-up required to correct discrepancies
- Advise program of discrepancies and provide assistance to ensure implementation of any reporting tools (revised spreadsheets, reporting definitions, etc) that will facilitate correct reporting of information
- Provide ad-hoc and regular/periodic requests for information from internal and external stakeholders by creating reports using available reporting tools (SAS, SQL, SAP WebI, Excel, etc.)
- Conduct analysis of case costing data where appropriate or required to support evidence-based decisions by stakeholders that rely on this role and knowledge base.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- University Undergraduate Degree required
- Business/Accounting OR equivalent work experience preferred
- 3-5 years’ experience in a Finance/Case Costing role within an Ontario hospital;
- 1-3 years’ experience working knowledge of statistical and financial healthcare standards (CIHI MIS and OHRS)
- 1-3 years’ experience with Ontario Case Costing (“OCC”) methodology preferred;
- 2-3 years’ analytical experience, preferably with hospital data
- Working knowledge of SRI and Trial Balance submission requirements, and the methodology behind the OCDM;
- Exposure to clinical utilization concepts and databases (CMGs, weighted cases, DAD, NACRS, OMHRS, etc.);
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products, especially Excel and Powerpoint;
- Proficient in the use of a reporting tool, eg. SQL, SAS, Crystal Reports, SAP WebI;
- Strong customer service mind-set; role requires prompt attention to frequent queries;
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with attention to detail; commitment to data quality
- Demonstrated ability to interact with cross-functional teams and experts throughout the hospital
