Public Health Inspector

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has an exciting opportunity for a temporary full-time (7 month) to Public Health Inspector to work on the Food Safety and Healthy Environments (FSHE) team in the Environmental Health and Infectious Diseases division located at Citi Plaza, London Ontario.
- Deliver comprehensive environmental health programs in the community including FS&HE program work which may include but is not limited to: food premises inspections, special event inspections, health hazard investigations and service requests, housing inspections, Healthy Menu Choices Act (HMCA) inspection work and various other special projects;
- Provide coverage and client service in all EH program work including Safe Water, Rabies Control and VBD teamwork.
- Client service and program coverage includes participation in office duty work, evening shift coverage and on-call weekends; and,
- Participate in other duties as assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- A four-year Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Health.
- Certification as a Public Health Inspector by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors CIPHI.
- Working knowledge of Provincial Legislation concerning Public Health and the Ontario Public Health Standards, Protocols and Guidelines.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to reliable transportation.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office and database software (Hedgehog), and strong documentation skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to influence and de-escalate complex and/or challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse population, has knowledge of health inequities.
- The ability to communicate (oral and written) in French and/or any other language(s) is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in FS&HE program work, health promotion, and enforcement of legislation is a strong asset.
The salary for this position ranges from $37.10 to $46.34 hourly based on qualifications and experience.
