Junior Mechanical Estimator

**Reporting To**: Purchasing Manager

**Primary Objective**:
To support the efforts of the Estimating Division, preparing comprehensive cost and labour estimates by analyzing proposals and requirements, along with planning, scheduling, costing, and coordinating projects.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Always keep Health and Safety of the utmost importance
- In preparation for an estimate, interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings to define the scope/contents of the estimate
- Attend pre-tender site visits
- Accurately interpret and comprehend tender drawings and specifications
- Consistently and insightfully formulate all tender costs; labour, material, and equipment
- Complete final cost estimate for a tender and final submissions for review and approval
- Close tenders, including tender reviews and sub-proposal reviews, and analysis
- Maintain files and correspondence on active tenders.
- Prepare and/or coordinator the preparation of full cost estimates on conceptual, design-build, or general tender work
- Review customer RFQ’s (Request for Quotations), specifications, schedule requirements, and bid documents
- Recommend/reject proposals
- Identify labour, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
- Prepare detailed take-offs
- Prepare Accubid for project estimations
- Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, and contingency
- Develop and track a project schedule including manpower for the project
- Prepare a complete list of materials and quantities take off
- Present prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information
- Coordinate the planning efforts with other divisions/trades
- Assist Project Managers in the preparation of job filing, and organization of paperwork
- Coordinate with internal divisions to obtain prices such as electrical, HVAC, and manufacturing
- Ensure projects are in compliance with contract requirements and Superior Boiler Works and Welding Limited’s standards
- Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to a formal quotation
- Ensure paperwork for job costing and finance are accordingly completed
- Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc., as required
- Assist the division manager in other duties as required
- Assemble and file documents for project bids
- Develop and maintain viable long-term relationships with customers and subcontractors

**Skills/Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction/engineering or Gold Seal in estimating, or an appropriate field
- Working knowledge of Accubid
- Relevant hands-on field experience
- Solid understanding of specifications, construction methods and procedures
- Exceptional knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Project, and Word)
- A positive attitude, strong teams’ skills, and display leadership qualities
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral
- The ability to multitask and problem solve in a high-pressure work environment
- A record of outstanding attendance and work performance
- Honesty, integrity, and work ethics are important characteristics
- Professional, dependable, detailed, and motivated
- Knowledge of construction processes (RFI, RFQ, Change Orders, etc.)
- Willing to travel to job sites as required

**Salary**: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
