**8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30am-4:00pm Friday**

Wellington Catholic District School Board invites qualified applicants for this permanent **Indigenous Student Support Worker** with a focus on First Nations, Inuit and Métis Youth Engagement and Positive Support.
**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:
The purpose of the Indigenous Student Support Worker is to provide comprehensive, culturally responsive support to First Nations, Inuit and Métis students to improve their well-being, academic achievements, and help affect systems change. The Student Support Worker will support Indigenous students by acting as a mentor and advisor, collaborating with school based and board staff and the broader community in responding to individual and systemic barriers (e.g., academic, mental health, justice); identifying and addressing individual barriers to engagement, learning and well-being; and facilitating access and referrals to academic supports and community resources to provide an integrated support system that provides opportunities for students to thrive by affirming their identities and cultures through culturally responsive and relevant practices.
The Indigenous Student Support Worker will report to the Executive Superintendent and will be part of a collaborative team for any Ministry reporting and accountability.
**Indigenous Student Support Worker Focus**:
- Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, families, system staff, Indigenous Education Council and meet regularly with the Indigenous Program Coordinator to identify promising practices, systemic barriers, and develop meaningful solutions to support the engagement, well-being and high expectations for students
- Facilitate access and referral to academic supports and community resources to provide integrated support systems for First Nations, Inuit and Métis students
- Act as a mentor and an advisor to students and play an essential role as an advocate for them with teachers, other school staff, parents/guardians and community members
- Establish relationships with various service agencies serving the Indigenous community
- Build positive and trusting relationships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis students and their families through a strength-based approach
- Establish the protective factors necessary for student success and agency, including integrating and linking new programs and supports to existing ones
- Engage with schools to create a welcoming environment for all Indigenous students, parents, and community members
- Prepare reports and monitor program progression and outcomes in collaboration with Indigenous Education Team and the Indigenous Education Council
- Ability to interpret and work within board and governing policies and protocols

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:
- Identify as a First Nations, Inuit and Métis person
- University degree or College diploma within the areas of: Indigenous education, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Social Service, or Education
- Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, values and cultural protocols and comfort engaging with diverse groups of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples including treaty partners and urban Indigenous communities
- Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends to meet program needs
- A valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel throughout the school district as required.
