**Position Title**: Underwriter

**Reports To**: Manager, Underwriting

**Department**: Individual Underwriting

**Term**: Permanent Full-Time

**Band**: 3M

**Work Arrangements**: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement. For those based outside of the Waterloo area, 100% work from home is available.

**The Opportunity**: Equitable is looking for an Underwriter to join our Individual Insurance team The level of this position will be determined based on the level of the successful individual (intermediate, senior, or associate underwriting consultant). The Underwriter plays a key role in risk assessment for both life and critical illness products. This position is critical to Equitable success, and is a great opportunity to work at one of Waterloo Region’s Top Employers while developing skills for the future.

**What you will be doing**:

- Assess each risk on its own merit using the benchmarks provided in the internet-based underwriting manuals as guideline - incorrect decision could mean early mortality, jeopardizing mortality experience
- Communicate accurate information through managing your daily workflow to ensure service standards are met
- Provide excellent customer service while building positive relationships with internal and external clients

**What you will bring**:

- Bilingual in French and English, spoken and written would be an asset
- Strong analytical and problem solving ability
- Strong written, verbal and product knowledge skills, ability to impart knowledge to others work in a team environment
- Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Strong medical knowledge and understanding of non-medical risk factors
- FLMI / FALU designation or currently working towards
- Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends
