Urban Barn is looking for an **Employee Relations Specialist** to join our People Team at our Home Office in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Reporting to the Director of People, the Employee Relations Specialist will work to ensure a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture exists across our retail stores. They will manage, develop, and execute various people programs, services and initiatives to support the needs of the National Operations teams while partnering to help grow engagement, retention and strengthen the overall employment experience.
**What You Will Do**:
- Provides human resources expertise, coupled with dedicated People services and support to Urban Barn Team members.
- Develops, manages, and supports various People programs and initiatives that contribute to building and fostering a positive, professional and inclusive work culture.
- Be a People Business Partner for our Stores and our Regional Managers who support them, helping to provide people solutions to their various business needs.
- Provides direction and support for our managers on effective employee relations strategies, performance management, and workplace culture to build unified adoption of our people tools & processes across the organization.
- Coaches and counsels managers, to help them improve their ability to manage performance, resolve employee conflict and build an engaged and inclusive workforce.
- Manages and supports the company’s Health and Safety Program(s), partnering with the HR Generalist and identified business partners
- Leads in the development of company policies, practices, and programs that support team member safety and overall wellness
- Supports company onboarding and orientation programs and works to ensure these programs are understood and delivered across the company to provide our new team members with an exceptional experience
- Development and management of people programs to help strengthen our company culture and support a people-first culture across the organization.

- Relationship builder, successful in building trust and commitment in the relationships that they support across the organization, manages employee confidentiality, and ensures actions are always aligned to promoting a professional and respectful workplace culture.
- Knowledgeable, passionate and creative in your field of employee relations, and find satisfaction in transferring your knowledge and passion to assist others
- Informed and engaged about what the future of work looks like and eager to implement new ideas and solutions in an evolving workforce.
**What You Bring**:
- 3-5 years experience in an Employee Relations, HR Advisor role, supporting a national retailer or hospitality brand
- Proven track record for success in supporting employee relations, performance management, and Health & Safety across a multi-unit work environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Employment Standards legislation, requirements, and best practices for performance management and coaching for improved performance.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and investigation skills, with the ability to support and deliver both orally and written formats, bilingualism (French/English) preferred
- Highly developed program management skills, with the ability to manage, update and introduce new initiatives that strengthen our leaders and team members knowledge.
