**Summary**:
The Casual Support Worker provides trauma-informed, culturally safe support to Indigenous youth in care, responding on an on-call basis to cover open shifts as needed. This role requires flexibility, dependability, and a grounded presence in high-stress environments. Casual Support Workers play a key role in maintaining consistent support for youth by stepping in during scheduled staff absences, short-notice call-ins, and peak care periods.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Build trusting, respectful relationships with children and youth in care through compassion, and cultural awareness.
- Support youth in developing coping skills, emotional regulation strategies, and prosocial behaviours.
- Implement individualized behaviour support plans in collaboration with full time staff, caregivers, etc.
- Provide crisis de-escalation and stabilization in accordance with agency protocols and trauma-informed practices.
- Maintain daily logs, behaviour tracking, incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Attend ongoing professional development and Indigenous cultural training.
- Advocate for the needs and voices of Indigenous youth within all systems of care.
- Ensure the safety and dignity of all children and youth under supervision.

**Qualifications**:
Abstainer with at least three years continuous sobriety is a requirement by organizational policy.
- Post-Secondary education in Child and Youth Work, Social Services, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, positive behaviour supports, and youth development
- Lived experience as an Indigenous person
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultures, languages, traditions, and the intergenerational impacts of colonialism and residential schools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Above average problem-solving skills
- Must be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to respond calmly in crisis and use de-escalation techniques effectively
- Clear vulnerable sector police check and valid driver’s license.
- Must possess a high level of emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and the ability to respond calmly and respectfully under pressure
- Demonstrates reliability, accountability, and a consistent, grounded presence in high-stress or emotionally charged environments

- Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST)
- Fire Extinguisher Handling Training
- Infection Control Training
- CPR and First Aid Certification, WHMIS Training
- Safe Food Handling Training

**Expectations for Casual Staff**:

- Must be available to cover day and night shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Submit weekly availability in advance.
- Accept a minimum of 2 shifts per month to remain active on the casual list.
- Respond promptly to shift offers; failure to respond or frequent cancellations may result in removal from the roster.

**Preferred Assets**:

- Indigenous ancestry and/or lived experience in an Indigenous community.
- Experience with traditional healing practices, ceremonies, and teachings.
- Knowledge of local Indigenous Nations and community supports.
