OVERVIEW
This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative program, as a clinician in Thorncliffe Park’s newest integrated youth hub. A collaboration between Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario, MGH, TNO, HAT-P, FHC, LOFT, Garry Hurvitz Centre forCommunity Mental Health, and Strides Toronto. This integrated youth hub will bring a range of low barrier services to youth 16-24 in the Thorncliffe Park community. This position will be based out of the integrated youth hub at 45 Overlea Blvd and will involve some virtual therapy as well.
Reporting to the Manager of Child & Youth Health Services, the Mental Health Clinician will provide therapy to youth and young adults (16-29) with mental health and/or substance use needs. The MH clinician will:
- Support youth with both brief and longer term therapies
- Support youth and young adults in the transition between services within the integrated youth hub
- Develop and maintain close relationships with the interdisciplinary clinical and non clinical team at the youth hub
- Participate in consultation with both internal and external stakeholders around issues regarding youth and MH care.
- Develop and maintain close partnerships with a range of community stakeholders in the TEHN catchment area to ensure seamless and supported transitions between services.
- Support the continued implementation and evaluation of the integrated youth hub
- Participate in activities in collaboration with the East Toronto Ontario Health Team, Youth Wellness hubs, in the TEHN catchment area.
EDUCATION
- Completion of a Master’s degree in one of the following health professions: Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or Occupational Therapy.
- Licensure and/or registration in good standing with relevant professional college.
- Current BLS recommended.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience in a mental health service, including work with youth and young adults aged 16- 24, required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience and demonstrated skill in counselling, family work and crisis intervention, required.
- Relevant experience in hospital, community and home-based mental health settings, required.
- Demonstrated experience and skill interacting with youth/ young adults presenting with a broad range of mental health conditions, including serious and persistent mental illness, addictions, trauma and conditions associated with suicidality and /or aggression.
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing, engagement strategies with youth, harm reduction preferred.
- Familiarity with marginalized populations, including ethno cultural and religious groups, LGBTQ+ youth and youth adults, those impacted by poverty and those involved in youth justice.
- Extensive knowledge of community mental health services for youth and young adults.
- Experience and skill in collaborating effectively with hospital, community, youth and family stakeholders and in building and maintaining solid working relationships with community partners.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act, Consent & Capacity legislation, Privacy Legislation, Mental Health Reform and consumer/survivor issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and do presentations.
- Computer literacy, including MS Word and Excel.
- Excellent work and attendance record.
