Reporting to the Supervisor of Environmental Field Services, this position is responsible to provide environmental expertise specific to project construction of Electric utilities infrastructure as well as incident coordination and management within the North Central region of the province.

The Advisor will need to work collaboratively with regional staff and contractors to ensure environmental compliance. This position will require implementation of ATCO’s ISO 14001 compliant EMS and project specific EPPs during field work, as well as supporting colleagues with environmental regulatory requirements.

A large component of the Advisor’s area of focus will be to respond to environmental incidents and support spill response activities. In addition to the major responsibilities and areas of focus, the Advisor will be responsible to tackle other departmental initiatives while managing scheduling and budgeting constraints.

In order to properly support and advise other functional groups, a key responsibility of this position is to identify working relationships and develop a strong network within the company. The ability to build positive working relationships with strong verbal and technical communication skills will be paramount to achieving success in this role.

The Advisor will regularly be required to travel to local field offices and remote project work areas to provide environmental guidance.

**_Note: The Advisor is to report out of the Slave Lake or High Prairie office however other regional service offices may be considered. This position is field based and will work a 4 on/3 off for 10 hours/day, Monday - Thursday. _**

**What You Get to Do**:

- Provide technical support for projects in the construction, execution, reclamation, and operational stages.
- Evaluating technical information against project needs and communicating potential constraints to project staff and district offices.
- Educate and support Construction, Engineering, Operations & Maintenance employees on project-specific environmental requirements.
- Assist with developing environmental mitigation measures.
- Support staff in responding to environmental incidents in a timely fashion.
- Work with third-party contractors and ensure incidents are dealt with accordingly, as per company requirements.
- Assist in incident review, reporting, and incident investigations, where required, to determine root causes.
- Complete regulatory reporting as it pertains to environmental incidents.
- Work with the Environmental Planning team on developing, implementing, and auditing the EMS.
- Provide a wide array of environmental training to employees and contractors and actively participate in regional meetings, environment presentations, and health & safety committees, etc.
- Advise on municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory requirements.
- Keep abreast of regulatory developments, trends and changes and provide information to ATCO.
- Work as a team to improve practices and processes in ATCO.
- Represent technical support on various focus groups and committees as required.
- Provide back up as appropriate in the absence of an Environmental Supervisor.

**Qualifications**:

- University degree, applied degree or diploma in an environment related field (reclamation/remediation, biology.)
- Must be registered as a member in good standing with a professional regulatory authority and possess a designation such as P.Ag, RT,Ag, P.Bio, preferred. Other equivalencies will be considered.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in an environmental field.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience working in an active worksite or construction setting.
- Solid ability to review and understand project work scope, execution strategies, construction activities and environmental impacts associated with electrical utility development.
- Technical experience including surface water, groundwater and soil sampling; general spill assessment, delineation, and remediation; reclamation assessments; wetland assessments; pre-construction nest surveys, and general knowledge of environmental assessments and wildlife mitigations.
- Working knowledge of SPIN II & AbaData.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
