**Working for the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Science**

This position is situated within the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta, a leader in addressing global challenges through innovative solutions in agriculture, nutrition, the environment, and human ecology. The new position will work within the Faculty three departments**:Human Ecology**, which examines the intricate relationships between people and their environments to empower graduates in improving daily life; **Renewable Resources (RenR)**, dedicated to advancing knowledge in ecosystem management, conservation, and restoration, with a focus on forests, rangelands, wildlife, soils, and water; and **Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology (REES)**, which applies economic and sociological theories and methods to critical issues in food systems, agriculture, natural resources, and environmental sustainability.

**Position**

Reporting to the Academic Department Manager (ADM), this role provides specialized administrative support to three departments within the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences (ALES): Human Ecology (HECOL), Resource Economics & Environmental Sociology (REES), and Renewable Resources (RENR). The incumbent supports the departmental ADM and Chair’s in areas such as Faculty Evaluation Committees, academic annual reporting, academic recruitment, departmental councils, teaching evaluations, Graduate Student and information management. This position ensures the professional, efficient, and confidential management of the departments' administrative functions. The individual will provide project management and logístical support to the ADM and Chair’s, serving as the primary point of contact for departmental inquiries. They will be responsible for maintaining strong public relations by coordinating departmental events, managing publications, and acting as the central liaison for external queries.

The Academic Program Coordinator operates independently, demonstrating sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to navigate time-sensitive tasks and competing priorities.

**Duties**
- Serves as the primary contact for staff, students, visitors, and external professionals, ensuring efficient communication and assistance.
- Provides administrative support to the Chairs for Faculty Evaluation Committee matters, staff appointments, and three departmental councils.
- Supports the recruitment process by assisting the Selection Committee and Chair with administrative tasks throughout the hiring process.
- Assists with logístical preparations and materials for departmental events, including meetings, retreats, and other activities.
- Manages the administration of departmental websites and oversees records management and retention processes.
- Co-creates departmental newsletters in collaboration with the Academic Department Manager (ADM).
- Assists with coordinating appointments, reappointments for Departments and Academic Teaching Staff, and managing Graduate Awards.
- Acts as the primary liaison with Facilities & Operations personnel to address maintenance and troubleshooting issues in departmental spaces.

**Qualifications**
- Minimum 2-year administrative diploma, with a preference for a diploma in business administration; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience, ideally within an academic environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Applications (Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Slide
