**ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE**:
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of seniors? Our Health Care Attendants are critical to our communities by supporting people in doing the things that matter most to them while providing a comfortable, safe and nurturing environment. Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Manager, the Health Care Attendants position is focused on enriching residents lives by ensuring they can make their own choices and lead full lives as independently as they can. Delivers care based upon individual care plans, policies and procedures, and established standards of care and duties as instructed by the Health and Wellness Manager, or LPN/RN in absence of the Health and Wellness Manager.

**BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Minimum of grade 12 education required.
- Has obtained certificate from an approved Health Care Aide program, HCA will need to complete training related to the care they are providing; and a current BC Care Aide registration. Completion of medical administration certificate (West).
- Certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR required.
- Previous experience as a Health Care Attendant working with seniors is considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, in the English language, nurturing excellent human relations with residents, families and other team members.

Ability to work with mínimal supervision and meet resident care needs, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Dependable, responsible and an ability to work well with others in a team environment and independently. Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.
- A resident-oriented individual, whose visions and values align with those of the residence.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Participates in and adheres to continuous quality improvement standards.
- Collaborates with the care team to provide feedback on care plans for the residents based on their physical, emotional, social and safety needs.
- Provides care to the residents including cognitive, social, and emotional support, according to their care plan and in a manner that promotes comfort, safety and well-being.
- Supports residents’ optimal level of functioning in their activities of daily living while respecting their rights and choices.
- Performs care procedures in accordance with the standards of resident care as set out in the established policies and procedures.
- Responsible for observing and reporting/documenting changes in the residents’ physical and emotional condition, as well as monitoring vital signs. Maintains health records in compliance with legislations (i.e. Privacy Act). Participates in shift report to oncoming staff.
- Completes documentation accurately and legibly according to policies and procedures.
- Assists in monitoring of specific interventions regularly and offers information or suggestions for improvement.
- Provides ongoing support to co-workers and acts as advocate for residents and families to ensure residents’ rights are protected.
- Utilizes equipment and supplies effectively and in accordance with policies and procedures, manufacturer’s instructions, and health and safety regulations.
- Ensures residents’ living space and personal belongings are kept clean, free from safety hazards, and organized according to residents’ personal choice.
- Serves beverages and resident meals in dining room as requested.
- Assists with other duties to ensure the smooth functioning of the residence, including housekeeping and laundry duties, maintains adequate stock of supplies, as required.
- Follows routine practices in all aspects of care and complies with other infection control protocols as directed, e.g. outbreak management.
- Administers medication and treatments in accordance with current approved standards of care, policies and procedures in West.
- Maintains effective communication and good interpersonal relations with residents, families, physicians, and other departments. Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Health and Wellness Manager/Director of Care or delegate.
- Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
- Completes all required mandatory training/education.
