**About the Opportunity**:
Recovery and integration (R&I) are one of the services of the Mental Health & Addictions Program. Simpson Landing is located on site at the Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth, NS. The delivery and services are guided by the principles of Recovery-oriented approach. Simpson landing offers opportunities for people living with mental health illness and experiencing significant functional challenges. Clients work on recovery focused goals to eventually help them to transition successfully back into community living. Programming about life skills, cooking, paying the bills, employment, education, treatment, wellness and health promotion, relapse prevention, family and peer support are some of the interventions that are offered at Simpson Landing. Our goal is to meet the clients where they are on their road to recovery.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) works under the clinical supervisor of the Occupational Therapist and works closely with Simpson Landings interdisciplinary team. The OTA will be responsible for carrying out 1:1 or group interventions that may include teaching life skills (e.g., how to grocery shop, budget, take the bus, and cook/ bake). The OTA may also facilitate or co-facilitate leisure-based groups, such as run club, hiking group, baking group, etc. The OTA will help clients establish healthy routines and transition into the community. This may be achieved by the OTA accompanying clients to new locations and groups (e.g., community gyms, outpatient follow up, supported work programs, resume handouts, social/ hobby clubs, etc.). The OTA may assist clients at the time of discharge by helping clients settle into new apartments and practice routines and coping strategies in that environment.

**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

- Graduated from a recognized community college occupational assistant program
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License
- Experience teaching life skills such as cooking, cleaning, taking the bus, etc. would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to grade the use of cues and support when teaching client’s new skills
- Experience leading or co-facilitating groups
- Demonstrate basic computer skills
- Experience working with individuals with persistent and severe mental illness would be an asset
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

- Long Assignment, Full-Time / 75 Hours Bi-weekly
- March 2025 to March 2026, approximately 12 months

**Compensation and Benefits**:
$24.11 - $27.39 Hourly
