Overview:
**POSITION OVERVIEW**

FBC provides income tax preparation, accounting and consultation services that help Canadian farmers and small business owners minimize their income taxes and maximize their assets. Our unique long-term membership approach is designed to meet customer needs year round and throughout their lifetime. With this approach, we can help customers in ways that other firms cannot.

This role is considered a
- May until mid-January each year. The Quality Assurance Technician responsibilities will be performed from mid
- January until mid-May each year.

**THE AUDIT SPECIALIST**:

- Responds to CRA queries for assigned Members, contacts the member for information and keeps the member and the auditor informed at every stage of the audit.
- The audit starts with CRA inquiry or request for information
- Requires the gathering information to respond to the CRA request
- Negotiates (counter proposal) with CRA
- Comes to an agreement, and review the NOA and when necessary
- Files a notice of objection when an agreement could not be reached with the auditor.
- They will collaborate with local branch tax advisors and MCCs (Member Care Coordinators) to gather necessary information and to understand what was claimed and why.

**THE QUALITY ASSUARANCE TECH (QAT)**:

- Once a tax call with a Member is completed by an FBC Local Tax Consultant, including the scanning of all necessary documents available, the tax call file is uploaded to the FBC servers.
- This automatically notifies the Quality Assurance Central Processing Offices and initiates the initial run of T1 products in FBC’s proprietary tax optimization software.
- The data from each tax call file (Membership) is then tracked and processed.
- Each unique Membership is assigned to a Quality Assurance Technician (QAT) to check the Farm or Business Self Employment Data and Personal Tax Data.
- The Membership moves through a number of steps until a Final Check is completed to ensure the final product mailed to our Members adheres to FBC’s high quality standards.
- This Quality Assurance Process is currently managed within FBC’s 2 Quality Assurance Processing Offices. East (London ON) and West (Calgary AB)

**AUDIT ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- CRA audit response deadlines are met 100% of the time
- Member pays the least amount of tax possible by providing the required documentation and presenting well founded arguments citing applicable tax law

**QAT ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- 100 % accurate data in adherence to QA established processes.
- Timely processing of Membership T1’s in accordance with CRA filing deadlines and current tax legislation.

**AUDIT AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**
- Responds to CRA queries for assigned Members
- Contacts the member for information
- Keeps the Member and the auditor informed of progress
- Negotiates (counter proposal) with CRA
- Reviews the NOA and NORA
- Files a Notice of Objection when an agreement could not be reached with the auditor.
- Timely turnaround of information
- Collaborate with local branch tax advisors and MCCs to gather necessary information and to understand what was claimed and why.

**QAT AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**
- Ensuring FBC Products are completed in accordance with FBC quality standards and Government Tax Legislation.
- Analysis of Income Tax and Government Program (AgriStability) related information.
- In depth analysis of Specialized Enhanced Financial Statements.
- Review of cash basis and accrual two-year comparative financial statements.
- Updating of Member information using proprietary software.
- Assembly and mailing of final products when required.
- Working between 40 to 55 hours in April with overtime paid after 40 hours

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education and Experience**
- Post-secondary education in accounting or business
- 2 years experience working with income tax preparation

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work to meet deadlines
- Strong ability to collaborate with FBC team, Members and third parties (CRA)
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to follow a process and meet deadlines

- Ability to maintain speed and accuracy while often performing repetitive tasks
- Experience in a Windows Environment along with a strong working knowledge of Excel and Word
