We are Parallel 49 Brewing Company, a craft brewery based in the heart of East Vancouver. The Quality Control Technician plays a pivotal role in maintaining the high standards of product quality and consistency that Parallel 49 Brewing Company is known for. This position involves rigorous testing, analysis, and documentation to ensure the production of exceptional craft beers. This position is full-time, permanent and is apart of the P49 Employee Association.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- ** Quality Testing**: Conduct comprehensive quality tests on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products, including but not limited to spoilage detection PCR, sensory evaluations, physical measurements, and chemical analysis.**Data Collection**: Accurately record and maintain detailed records of all quality control test results, ensuring data integrity and compliance with standard operating procedures.-
**Analytical Analysis**: Perform analyses such as pH, gravity, alcohol content, bitterness, color, and other critical parameters using specialized equipment and techniques.-
**Sensory Evaluation**:Participate in sensory evaluations to assess flavor, aroma, appearance, and overall quality of beer products, helping to identify any deviations from standards.-
**Troubleshooting**: Collaborate with the production team to identify and address any potential quality issues or inconsistencies, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.-
**Equipment Maintenance**:Regularly calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.-
**Quality Assurance Documentation**:Assist in the development and maintenance of quality control standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documentation, keeping up-to-date records of procedures and outcomes.-
**Compliance and Safety**: Adhere to all relevant safety protocols, quality standards, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment and the production of safe products.- ** Collaboration**: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including brewers, production staff, and management, to share insights, address quality concerns, and support product development.
**Qualifications**
- Experience working in a laboratory setting is required.- Experience in quality control is preferred.-
- Understanding of brewing processes, fermentations and the factors that influence beer quality is preferred.-
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and conducting various analytical tests.-
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.-
- Excellent attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills.-
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.-
- Effective communication skills to convey findings and collaborate with other teams.-
- Flexibility to work in a dynamic and fast-paced production environment.- Understanding of safety protocols and adherence to safety regulations.
**Education Requirements**
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field is required.
**Working Conditions**
- Working indoors in a lab setting
- Required to adhere to all safety procedures and to wear required personal protective equipment
