Burlington, Canada Reach Out Centre for Kids Full time

**PURPOSE**

For over 45 years ROCK Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK), has been providing critical mental health services to children, youth, and their families. Selected by the Province in 2014 to lead the Region in their work with children and families, ROCK has since achieved exemplary standing in their work, from Accreditation Canada.

Excited to be chosen by the Province of Ontario to pilot the One Stop Talk initiative, ROCK will enhance Walk-In services to include **One Stop Talk**. As an entry point for receiving mental health services, this position will provide immediate virtual counselling to children, youth, and their families, offering therapeutic support for resolving presenting issues and will provide additional mental health supports.

Reporting to the Manager of Brief & Walk-In Services, the **Counsellor** will provide single session counselling to children and their families as part of the provincial initiative. This position will also assist in the facilitation of clinical groups and monitor and support clients waiting for services.

One Stop Talk sessions will be offered from **12:00PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday and Wednesdays** and group facilitation may require further evening work. **Please note that hours may expand as service develops**.

This is a **permanent, full-time position.**

**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide virtual single session counselling to children, youth, and their families, offering therapeutic support for resolving presenting issues.
- Provide support, consultation, assessment, and treatment services to children and their families using family, individual, parent-child, and group modalities as required.
- Provide a social work perspective within a multidisciplinary team and be aware of the importance of contributions from other disciplines in recognizing and treating disorders of children and their families.
- Maintain a primary focus on provision of a therapeutic encounter while maintaining an appropriate lens to access mental health issues.
- Participate in supervision, single session counselling training and other trainings provided to enhance client service.
- Facilitate clinical group offerings both virtually and in-person as needed.
- Support clients waiting for service through client centred approaches and assessment.
- Ensure that all required agency and provincial reporting information, including all required documentation, records, and statistical data is submitted according to procedures and meets professional, licensing, and legal requirements.
- Supervise the clinical and administrative work of students/trainees.
- Ensure familiarity with all services at ROCK and their referral process.
- Ensure familiarity with community services within Halton Region.
- Promote the direction of the program and agency by engaging in identifying, developing, and implementing program goals, projects, or services.
- Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care, and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
- Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any further health and safety responsibility outlined in the agency’s policies and procedures.
- Other duties as may reasonably be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**_
Education_**:

- A BSW of Social Work degree (preferred) or equivalent education from a recognized university.
- Eligibility for registration with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and/or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or an equivalent registration body.
- SST training, work experience, or combination of both.

**_ Experience_**:

- Experience working within a mental health environment.
- A minimum of 1-year clinical experience in family, individual, and parent-child counselling, as well as some experience leading groups. It is expected that this experience will have included appropriate supervision.
- It is considered a valuable asset if the applicant has practice or training in one or more of the following skill areas:

- Group treatment OR facilitating parent events.
- Therapeutic modalities.
- Experience working across the age continuum using clinical frames, such as systemic family counselling, attachment, and developmental lenses.

**_ Skills:_**
- Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills.
- Relevant knowledge and skill in the assessment and treatment of children, youth, and families that are encountering mental health issues.
- Knowledge of Ontario’s different regions, cultural differences and resources considered an asset.
- Bilingualism is a strong asset. The ability to speak a second language is highly valued.
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
