The Volunteer Coordinator will oversee the Cochrane & Area Humane Society’s (CAHS) Volunteer Programs and is responsible for all aspects of volunteer coordination and management of Volunteer Department staff. The position is a 30 hour work week, Tuesday-Saturday with flexibility to meet the Society’s and volunteer program needs.

**Salary Range**:$19.00-$24.00/hr based on experience

**Responsibilities**:

- Facilitate the day-to-day operations of the volunteer department
- Recruit, train, coordinate and orient new volunteers to the CAHS based on the Society’s volunteer needs as determined by management
- Research, devise, and implement innovative and effective volunteer recruitment and retention strategies
- Deliver regular volunteer orientation sessions
- Schedule and deliver or coordinate training for new volunteers and ongoing as required
- Schedule volunteers based on shelter and Society event needs
- Provide support and direction to the volunteers at the shelter and at off-site events
- Coordinate corporate group volunteering opportunities
- Maintain youth volunteering opportunities
- Conduct interviews with potential volunteers as required
- In collaboration with the Foster & Community Support Coordinator; recruit, train, coordinate and orientate new foster volunteers to the CAHS based on the Society’s foster program needs
- Support the foster department and provide coverage as needed or requested by Management
- Create volunteer communication pieces and work with communications staff and marketing team to develop content for social media, member newsletters, annual reports, etc., to recognize volunteer contributions and to help promote the volunteer program
- To promote organizational values in all areas of conducting Society business
- Prepare and maintain all documents related to volunteer management including processes and procedures, job descriptions, training manuals, and volunteer packages
- To distribute all necessary volunteer information to Management
- Consult with management and staff to determine organization needs for various volunteer services
- Plan and organize volunteer recognition and appreciation opportunities
- Analyze and prepare outcome reports on the volunteer program as well as on volunteer feedback surveys
- Submit annual department budget needs to the Executive Director
- Contribute to and complete related tasks determined in the CAHS Work Plan
- With the assistance of the Operations Manager update as necessary policies and procedures related to volunteers
- Act as primary point of contact for volunteers
- Conduct appropriate dismissal of volunteers as needed
- Ensure appropriate and timely communication is shared within and between departments
- Communicate animal related health and behavioural concerns and any occupational hazards to Management in a timely manner
- Conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner at all times while working as an employee of the Cochrane & Area Humane Society
- Complete all mandatory training
- Complete other related duties as requested by the Executive Director or Operations Manager

**Qualifications**:

- Genuine concern for the welfare of animals
- Background in nonprofit sector and/or volunteer management a definite asset
- Knowledge in Volgistics and PetPoint an asset
- Excellent people skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong team player
- Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle
- Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
- Positive attitude
