**INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN**
Location: Thunder Bay
The mandate of the Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is to provide engineering and technical advisory services to all Unaffiliated First Nations and Tribal Councils in Ontario. The OFNTSC requires the services of an Instrumentation Technician to work under the direction of the HUB Supervisor and assist the OFNTSC HUB Services team.
**This position work will require 90% of the time travelling/working in First Nation communities within Ontario and 10% time in home/remote office.**
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Installing and repairing electrical and mechanical controls under the supervision of the HUB Supervisor.
- Training to use numerous tools to maintain and repair a variety of electrical systems and instruments, such as recording devices, control systems, drives, communication and data systems, counters, and speed indicators.
- Learn health and safety operations and responsibilities related to handling industrial electrical equipment.
- Come prepared to a worksite, carry and deliver any materials needed
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety in the workplace and job site
- Traveling out to various public and private spaces to assist
- Interpreting blueprints and schematics.
- Updating work logs, client accounts, and handling other administrative duties.
- Ordering replacement parts and equipment as needed.
- Completing electrical installations and carrying out various maintenance duties.
- Assess water & wastewater facilities' process control instrumentation and automation systems.
- Investigate & analyze water & wastewater facilities to develop situation-specific recommendations which will address optimization and cost reduction opportunities.
- Working irregular hours and overtime when required.
- Communicating with clients in a professional, courteous manner at all times.
- Collaborating with construction workers, plumbers, and OFNTSC staff.
**Education & Experience**:
- Current Province of Ontario Instrumentation Technician Certificate (a certificate transferable from another Province will be considered)
- Knowledge of water & wastewater treatment & distribution systems
- Technical evaluation & design skills for process control & automation optimization.
- Ability to monitor and review network, hardware, software, and instrumentation performance & operating capacities.
- Ability to diagnose & develop solutions to WTP & WWTP operating problems.
- Experience in supporting SCADA system installations.
- Knowledge of Province of Ontario water & wastewater regulations.
- High School Diploma/ College Diploma or Certificate
- Sensitivity to the unique needs of First Nations peoples.
**Skills and Abilities**:
- Extensive travelling is required through the province of Ontario.
- Reliable and insured vehicle and valid Province of Ontario driver’s license.
- Maintain relationships and partnerships with the various First Nation communities, stakeholders, and federal and provincial agencies.
- Understand the procedures and protocols in dealing with First Nation communities, government bureaucracies, and agencies.
- Effectively manage work time to prioritize and take initiative.
- Support the team environment.
- Provide written technical letters, reports, and procedures which may include photos, charts, and graphs.
- Utilize Microsoft Office database functions, maintenance programs, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
- Commitment to providing exceptional service and support to our UFN operator(s).
Conditions of Employment:
- Maintain schooling requirements
- Practical experience working with electrical systems and equipment.
- Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- A willingness to learn and work overtime when required
- Ability to handle criticism appropriately
