**Title**: Kitchen Helper / Coverage Staff

**Skill Requirements**

**Education**: Completion of high school, Some college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training

**Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.)**: Standard Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate, First Aid Certificate Level C, Food Handlers Certification

**_**We are currently utilizing Catering services**_ - Clean dishes, carts, and kitchen. Prepare and sanitize carts between each meal and snacks. Grocery run/order once a week for childcare essentials, such as milk, toilet paper, etc

**Coverage**: Classroom staff coverage, cleaning and disinfecting, and any other as needed basis, etc

**Food Preparation Specializations**

Stocks, soups and sauces; Eggs and dairy; Cold kitchen (salads, appetizers, sandwiches); Cereals, grains and pulses; Vegetables, fruits, nuts and mushrooms; Meat; Poultry; Pasta; Fish; Pizza

**Types of Meals/Food Prepared**
Breakfasts/Lunches/Snacks

**Specific Skills**
Prepare individual dishes and foods; Plan menus according to weekly sales to the best of your ability; Ensure quality of food and determine size of food proportions; Prepare dishes for children with food allergies or intolerances; Estimate food requirements and costs; Inspect kitchens and food service areas; Order supplies and equipment; Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment; Clean kitchen and work areas; Wash dishes; Manage kitchen operations; Manage kitchen finances; Make weekly grocery runs as required; Ensure to follow by the Canadian Food Guide ; Ensure that all storage areas are tidy and all products are stored appropriately; Constantly use safe and hygienic food handling practices; maintain a prepared and sanitary work area at all times;
**Other Requirements**
The Kitchen Helper must be available to help with the children in the classroom and playground when not busy in the kitchen. Appropriate interacting with the children is expected. Substituting in the classroom is expected if an assistant teacher is absent.

It is extremely important that the Kitchen Helper is versatile and willing to work in areas other than in the kitchen (such as assist RECEs as needed and/or office duties, lunch coverage as required). The individual needs to be willing to work irregular hours and be reliable.

**Additional Skills**: Assist in maintaining records of children, Assist of inventory of supplies and equipment, assist in housekeeping duties, Light cleaning duties

Attention to details, especially for special dietary restrictions and anaphylaxis aware for proper meal preparation and food handling.
