**Digital Technology Specialist - Orthotics & Prosthetics**

The Holland Bloorview Orthotics and Prosthetics department in partnership with the Bloorview Research Institute is looking for an individual to fill a new position that will play a key role in developing, implementing, and overseeing digital workflows for prosthetic and orthotic devices. This role will require the individual to act as a representative of the program and a liaison with both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Their work will align with the strategic plan of the organization and the fee-for-service delivery model of the Orthotics & Prosthetics program.

Our department provides services to pediatric and adult clients who require orthotic and prosthetic devices to improve their mobility, function and independence. We are focused on developing and implementing innovative solutions for our clients through the use of digital technologies and additive manufacturing. The digital technology specialist will work closely with our clinicians, technicians and research engineers to create digital workflows and processes for the design and production of custom orthoses and prostheses. There will be opportunities to work directly with clients and their families and contribute to the design and outcome of their assistive devices.

This is a one-year contract with the possibility of an extension.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Coordination of digital workflow development and implementation
- Operate and maintain in-house 3D printing software and hardware for the production of orthotic and prosthetic devices
- Perform 3D scanning of clients in clinical settings which includes interacting with clients and families to understand and meet their needs on a case-by-case basis
- Train and support clinicians and technicians with in-house 3D software and hardware
- In collaboration with clinicians and technicians modify and design 3D models based on the clinical treatment plan
- Implement efficient and standardized workflows for shape capture, design and 3D printing of custom prosthetic and orthotics devices
- Generate and maintain internal documentation for workflow processes
- Communicate with external partners and 3D printing professionals and keep up-to-date on new technologies and developments in the field
- Develop, collect, and analyze key performance indicators to support digital technology implementation within clinical operations
- Collaborate with research engineers and students for ongoing projects
- Oversee and co-supervise research students employed to develop this work
- Contribute to written and verbal knowledge dissemination (journal articles, conference presentations, media, etc.)

**Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree in engineering or a related technical discipline
- Strong CAD background (Autodesk, Solidworks, Fusion 360 or similar)
- Experience with training or overseeing/supervising staff
- Knowledge and/or interest in prosthetics, orthotics, biomechanics, and material science fields
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary and diverse team
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Strong and effective organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and time-management skills
- Knowledge of and experience in Orthotics and Prosthetics profession would be an asset, but is not required
- Effective verbal and written communication, experience with contributing to research publications
