Our success relies on having highly skilled field operators, so we have developed a training program that's one of the best in the industry. The Equipment Operator/Distribution Assistant will learn to use the tools and procedures required for the construction, maintenance and operation of the Gas Distribution system. You will assist in the installation of distribution pipes, fittings and related components and carryout repairs and alterations to existing mains or services, in addition to operating rubber tire back-hoe and/or excavating equipment.

The Equipment Operator/Distribution Assistant will be trained in all aspects of emergency response.

All positions carry competitive compensation and benefits that include regular paid vacation, medical, dental, extended health, group life insurance, pension plan and optional group RRSP. Requirements
High school/Grade 12 graduation/GED (education will be verified).
Hold a current Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
Underground utilities experience (gas, water, sewer) is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to proficiently operate a backhoe around underground utilities.
Mechanical aptitude.
Demonstrated safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices on a sustained basis.
Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Initiative and sense of responsibility.
Ability to become proficient in the use of power operated and hand tools, equipment and instruments.
Ability to learn simple pipefitting, small meter setting and residential appliance relight setting.
General good health, adequate physical strength and agility.
Ability to meet the public as a representative of FortisBC.
Ability to absorb, follow and retain instructions relating to function.
Ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of theory and operation of material and equipment relating to Gas Operations.
Ability to use and complete time slips, trucking slips, simple work and similar forms.
Ability to successfully obtain Gas Utility or higher certificate of qualification.
Ability to provide running maintenance on backhoes.
Ability to operate and provide running maintenance on any of the following or similar equipment: front-end loaders, trenching machines, portable cranes, crawler tractors, side booms, direct bury plowing machines or any equipment which requires up to a Class 1 Driver’s License (with air endorsements). Additional Information
Considerable walking, bending and lifting.
Exposure to all weather conditions.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience operating rubber tire backhoe and/or excavating equipment in shallow construction.
Current Gasfitter qualifications (B ticket or higher) are considered an asset.
Welding experience/credentials are considered an asset.

**Standby/On-Call requirements**: This role has standby/on-call requirements based on operational needs and progression from EODA to EODM.

**Overtime requirements**: This role has overtime requirements based on operational needs.

**Travel/Out of town requirements**: This role may have travel/out of town requirements based on operational needs.
This position has a requirement to be clean-shaven as per WCB standards.
