Student Support Specialist (contract position, 0.8 FTE)

**About the position**:
This will be a contract position, paid hourly at $35/hr, approximately 20-28 hours per week over 4 or 5 days.

Role and Responsibilities

The Student Support Specialist will be part of the Learning Support Program and will work closely with the guidance of the Skills staff and classroom teachers and the Learning Support Teacher Leader. This individual will be required to support the student in managing organizational strategies, completing school work, studying and communicating with teachers, parents and the Skills Team. This staff member will help ensure that the student is using time effectively at school, breaking down assignments into small steps, explaining complex vocabulary, identifying aspects that are too challenging for the student and creating timelines with the student to ensue work is completed on time.

Employ appropriate strategies and methods relevant to the individual student’s needs

Working with the student during class time, in the Learning Lab, separate from the class

Remain up-to-date with all relevant courses of the student

Ensure that school work is suitably adapted by the classroom teachers

Explain and review assignments with the student in a one-on-one environment

Support the student with organization and planning strategies to complete school work

Communicate regularly with the Learning Support Teachers and classroom teachers

Familiarity computer platforms such as Google Classroom, Google Drive, Gmail, etc.

Track student progress

Support other students as possible

**Requirements for the position**:
Completion of a University or College program

Student Support or Teacher training would be an asset (including teacher certification)
