**ABOUT THE ORGANISATION **Tropicana Community Services, a Toronto-based multiservice organization, provides all youth, newcomers, people of Black and Caribbean heritage and others in need with opportunities and alternatives that lead to success and positive life choices. Our mission is achieved through culturally appropriate programs such as counselling, childcare, educational, and employment services and youth development.

**ABOUT THE POSITION **Reporting to the Head of Legacy programs Operations and Enhancement, the Manager of Youth Programs is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to the youth development and education programs that are culturally relevant to the Black communities and other educational initiatives for Black families that are culturally relevant to the Black communities. Current programs include: _Increase Your Success Tutoring & Clubs, Camp Tropicana, Rise Above, Defy Your Label, and, The Lab._

**AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**

**Planning & Program Development**:
**_ D_**_evelop the _**_internal plans to facilitate the effective implementation and efficient operations of the Youth Development and Education (YDE) programs in accordance with _**_the department’s and funders’ goals and objectives._**
- Develop and manage the annual operational plan for the YDE department to meet the agency’s strategic goals and objectives
- Plan, organize and implement various programs that build on culturally relevant identity, values, and practices
- Help shape programs, set goals, and create and implement action plans that align with organizational priorities

**Financial Management**:
**_ Assists in the development and monitoring of the program budgets._**
- Assist with annual program budget planning
- Continuously evaluate the progress of tasks, responsibilities and projects against timeframes, budget, strategic intent, and organizational values
- Ensure all programs are operating in a safe, positive and inclusive environment for participants, staff, and volunteers, addressing safety concerns promptly, focusing on using a proactive methodology

**Human Resources Management**:
**_ Provides the leadership and direction to the YD & E Team._**
- In consultation with Human Resources (HR) and following HR policies, manage the recruitment, supervision, training and performance of all YDE program staff, and ensure that staff have access to the training and support to be effective and to meet the expectations of their roles
- Coordinate work functions among team members, ensuring equitable workload and coordinated effort among members
- Recruit and supervise placement/co-op students from High School, College or University as per HR guidelines

**Community Engagement**:
**_ Develops positive links with public and private sector organizations to enhance the delivery of programs in the community and establish partnerships with other service providers_**.
- Initiate and maintain effective relations with agencies, schools and other community groups, which could enhance the delivery of the youth development and education programs
- Develop and maintain formal partnership agreements, including data sharing agreements, with local schools and school boards and renew these agreements on an annual basis
- Research and exchange information with other community resources regarding programs to support Black children and families, intake criteria and availability of services, and maintain updated information for sharing with staff and referrals

**SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- University Degree or College Diploma in Youth Education, Social Work or a related field / an equivalent level of experience and education
- 3 to 5 years of experience with youth or youth-centered programming
- Knowledge of educational issues and teaching techniques, especially as they relate to the Black, African and Caribbean communities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven record of demonstrating tact and diplomacy when facing challenging situations, including conflict resolution conversations with youth and adults
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to engage, motivate and support participants, staff, and volunteers
- Knowledge of best practices and current trends, tools and platforms used in virtual program delivery in hybrid (in person/remote) work/service settings
- A high level of computer literacy, proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Experience working in the non-profit sector preferred
