Momiji Health Care Society is a non-profit organization providing services to senior
citizens of primarily Japanese-Canadian descent, in an effort to maximize their
independence, health, and quality of life. We are currently seeking a part-time Program Worker for our IT and Beyond Project.
Working Hours: 20-25 hours per week, between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday - Friday (this is a contract position for 23 weeks)
- Position is located Momiji Centre and some remote hubs in the community
Hourly Rate: $17.70
- _Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19._
Purpose/Scope:
- Together with Client Intervention Worker and SALC Coordinator, to develop, plan and implement a program that will enhance IT literacy, accessibility to information and services, and social and physical engagement for older adults in the community.
- Lead one-to-one and group sessions offered at Momiji and in the community to enhance IT literacy, socialization, physical fitness and general well-being and accessibility to information, education and services for older adults in the community.
- Promote opportunities for older adults to form positive relationships with fellow participants to help reduce social isolation.
Major Responsibilities:
- Work with the Client Intervention Worker and SALC Coordinator to develop, plan, implement, promote, lead and evaluate programs
- Help develop and implement surveys before and after the program to evaluate participant satisfaction with the program, and complete the report for the program’s funders
- Lead group and one-to-one sessions that are related to IT literacy, physical fitness, social engagement and education, both at Momiji and in offsite locations regularly
- Monitor and assess participants ensuring their satisfaction, safety and well-being
- Assist guest speakers with their needs
- Maintain accurate records and statistics, and other administrative tasks
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Train, support, coordinate, monitor and supervise volunteers during the programs
General Responsibilities:
- Work and communicate effectively with the Client Intervention Worker, SALC Coordinator, program participants, volunteers and guest speakers
- Represent Momiji in a professional and positive manner
- Create a welcoming atmosphere and serve refreshments at each session
- Participate in other duties as assigne
- Assist/escort physically frail seniors as neede
- Lead, coordinate, and support some physical activity programs for seniors, such as seated exercise and falls prevention exercise
- Occasional light/moderate lifting may be required
Minimum Knowledge:
- Experience working with seniors
- Strong computer literacy
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- **Japanese language skills are a definite asset**
Required Credentials:
- Diploma/Certificate in Activation (preferred), a related field, or a combination of education and work experience
