**Our Team**:
Seniors’ Services is a division of Community Services at the Region of Waterloo. We collaborate with the community to plan, support and operate long-term care, residential and community programs in Waterloo Region.
We offer a variety of services and programs for older adults to enable them to age with dignity. We offer a warm, friendly atmosphere with modern amenities and quality care. Making sure that each person can live their best life is important to us.
**The Opportunity**:
Coordinates and develops orientation, staff training, and educational programs for the Division to ensure compliance with legislation, and to support the delivery of person-centered care, staff performance, and competency. Coordinates nursing and personal care student placements, and student preceptorship programs.
Develops orientation and training curriculum to support the organizational strategy to transform the culture of care to embrace personhood, choice, joy, and social/emotional engagement.
Determines training requirements needed to ensure compliance with legislation, directives, accreditation standards, policies, and procedures, and promotes compliance.
Coordinates systems designed to support new initiatives, and the design of training curriculum, including job aids and resources. Researches training programs to identify, assess, and recommend continuous improvements.
Coordinates, conducts, monitors, and creates new employee orientation and ongoing staff training, skills development, and education initiatives.
Provides leadership and acts as a resource to staff and management as it relates to training and education, including developments and techniques related to resident care. Acts as a resource to staff for professional learning and education. Mentors staff teams to deliver person-centred services that are individualized, engaging, and embrace choice, belonging, personhood, and friendship.
Oversees work done by in-house trainers. Meets with trainers to develop programs and make improvements. Provides ongoing technical assistance to trainers and staff conducting presentations.
Oversees nursing and personal care student group placements and student preceptor programs. Works with educational institutions to coordinate student orientation and screening requirements for placements.
Coordinates the development and implementation of individual education plans (e.g., complex resident care issues) to ensure staff compliance with clinical practice requirements. Monitors and reports on progress, and follows up as required. Provides clinical coaching as required.
Oversees the divisional online learning system. Develops and administers content.
Coordinates and provides basic life support training and certification for registered staff, annually.
Works with the Volunteers Coordinator to assist with orientation and education programs for volunteers.
Works with the Fire Marshal, Quality and Risk Coordinator, and program areas to develop and update emergency policies and procedures, and assist with providing training on emergency procedures. Coordinates and participates in monthly fire drills and training. Operates monthly alarm drills and oversees monthly silent drills.
Develops and maintains systems to track new staff orientation and attendance at sessions. Works with management to ensure staff compliance with educational requirements.
Participates on and chairs committees, representing the interests of training, education, and continuous improvement.
Prepares and administers the education budget for the Division, with the Administrator. Purchases education resources and equipment and ensures they are maintained in good condition.
Keeps knowledge current as it relates trends and developments in long-term care and community supports, training, education, best practices, and procedures.
Backs up the Infection Control Coordinator and other management/management support positions as required.
Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge of adult learning processes, practices, and techniques acquired through a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, plus experience coordinating education in a health care facility/setting.
Must have current Registered Nurse certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
