**Fort Steele Heritage Town** is a living history site dedicated to the preservation, interpretation, and enhancement of British Columbia’s rich heritage. Fort Steele serves as a cultural and educational resource, engaging visitors in the stories, traditions, and historical significance of the Region. The Site is supported by the Cranbrook Archives, Museum and Landmark Society and its Executive Management Team which provides strategic direction, development and funding to achieve the site’s mandate. **Position Summary**

The Programs Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and expanding the interpretive and educational programming at Fort Steele Heritage Town. This includes creating wholistic interpretive programming across the site, coordinating educational tours, developing engaging visitor experiences, and supervising program staff. The role requires creativity, organization, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, authentic experiences.

The Programs Supervisor will work closely with the CAMAL Director of Programs and Education to develop strategies to reduce barriers to participation for all audiences while seeking innovative ways to reach out to and engage new audiences. As a position of leadership, it is also the responsibility of the Supervisor to act as a role model for staff and summer students and set an example of positive behaviour and respect for ideas.

**Position Duties and Responsibilities**
- Research, design, and implement a wide range of interpretive programs that include diverse perspectives and narratives, enhancing visitor engagement at the Site and in the community.
- Collaborate with the Director of Programs and Education to develop interpretation approaches, policy, budgets, evaluations, and strategic goals, ensuring financial accountability and sustainable growth.
- Increase program revenue through innovative programming, technology, and outreach strategies. Managing the budget for program activities and projects.
- Recruit, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality execution of activities.
- Develop, deliver, and oversee guided tours, workshops, education field trips, and heritage trade experiences for visitors, schools and community groups.
- Coordinate costuming and develop interpretive street scenes to enhance authenticity.
- Coordinate with other departments to develop and deliver workshops and demonstrations for visitors.
- Support reconciliation initiatives by incorporating Indigenous perspectives and histories into programming.
- As related to the job description, other duties as assigned across CAMAL properties and projects.

**Knowledge and Experience**
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field AND/OR a combination of education and experience in developing and delivering public programming for diverse audiences.
- Three (3) years relevant work experience, preferably in delivering and/or developing programming in a museum or heritage site setting.
- An understanding of Indigenous relations in this region; additionally, familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the relevant Calls to Action for Museums is an asset. This knowledge can be through education, lived or worked experience.
- First Aid (any level) an asset.
- Knowledge of the BC Curriculum and historical inquiry an asset.
- Experience with primary source research and implementation in historical programming.

- Ability to work with children and understanding of learner diversity.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills marked by professionalism, teamwork, and courtesy.
- Strong computer skills, in particular knowledge of Microsoft 365, specifically Excel for data analysis, and database systems.
- Proven supervisory and leadership experience.
- Ability to work independently without day-to-day supervision while still collaborating in a small team environment.
- Ability to interact and communicate with large groups of people from a variety of backgrounds and educational levels and explain concepts to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to work to a budget, ideally additional experience in developing budgets for programs.
