We are seeking a talented and passionate chef to join our team The ideal chef is creative, technically skilled, and comfortable designing custom menus while adapting to various dietary needs. Next level communication skills are essential. We value people who bring a positive attitude and a collaborative, creative, inspired spirit to our kitchen. **YOUR CORE RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Create and cook beautiful, exciting custom menus for our Custom Meal Prep clients.
- Menu planning, grocery ordering, cooking, labeling, clean-up, and ongoing client communication for assigned clients.
- Adapt to the client's various dietary restrictions and preferences, or be willing to learn.
- Maintain positive client relationships and communicate about weekly menus and feedback.
- Prepare and cook meals for catering events, as assigned.
- Maintain and manage daily tasks within our company task management system.
- Follow Rooted recipe and presentation specifications.
- Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist with cleaning and maintaining the general kitchen area.
**ROLE OUTCOMES**
First 30 Days
- Onboarding & welcome to the team.
- Initial training in the company task management system.
- Learn end-to-end Custom Meal Prep client process.
**SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Passionate about food and the execution of beautifully composed dishes.
- Team-oriented, positive energy, helpful and able to contribute to a fun, tight-knit workplace while also working autonomously.
- Able to adapt and prioritize, meeting deadlines, in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and an intentional approach to your work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills; you will be the front line for weekly client communication.
- Proactive, self directive and take initiative.
- Have a professional demeanor.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Culinary school graduate or 3+ years of professional culinary experience in a restaurant, café, or other culinary setting.
- Experience in creating unique, flavorful, and beautifully presented menus.
- Food Safe certificate (required).
- Ability to cook and taste meat; this role is not suitable for vegans.
- Drivers license and access to a vehicle an asset.
**COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE**
- This is a _contractor_ position
- Location: Our commercial kitchen in East Vancouver
- Rate: $25-33 per hour, sometimes higher
- Hours: 20-30 hours per week (to start), with room to grow into full time
- Ideal availability: Sunday-Thursday
