The role assumes responsibility for strategic planning and development of programs and events focused on increasing the involvement and engagement of students from kindergarten to grade 12, their teachers and parents, and other stakeholders in the community. The Manager will ensure that the necessary support, information, documentation and resources are available to provide opportunities for students to learn about engineering through workshops, conferences, campus experiences, mentorship opportunities, special events and other initiatives, with an overall goal of increasing the undergraduate and graduate engineering student enrollment. In addition, the role will coordinate the evaluation of programs, and manage the day-to-day administrative, human resources, financial and logístical functions of the various programs. In this role, the Manager will also lead and direct the work of others, ensure appropriate resources and controls are in place to manage risks, and make suggestions for the continual improvement of processes, while participating in the development of marketing materials, identifying and acting on opportunities to increase awareness of engagement programs and seeking out sponsorship for programming. **Qualifications**: - Education: - Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Science or Education - Master’s of Education is preferred - Experience: - 5 years’ experience in an academic institution in a recruitment and/or outreach leadership role - 3 years’ experience managing staff, programs, and projects - Experience developing programming related to Ontario science and math curriculum (elementary and secondary), and working with youth in an education and/or camp setting - Experience developing relationships and working with community partners - Experience preparing and writing grant proposals and with sponsorship requests and stewardship - Experience working in a university environment building strong relationships with students, faculty, staff and the community - Administrative, human resources, and financial experience in a complex office environment - Experience managing engineering/STEM outreach programs in a higher education environment is preferred - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - In-depth knowledge of best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new programming relevant to student populations - Knowledge of financial principles and budgeting with the ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required - Knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices, Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation - In-depth knowledge of best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people - Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes; familiarity with large scale events an asset - Project management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure - Ability to effectively present information, and conduct training sessions and workshops with verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience - Cross-cultural knowledge, understanding, and competency with the capacity to support inclusion strategies for participants and to demonstrate openness to persons of diverse backgrounds and beliefs - Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required - Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations - A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and behaviour management skills with the capacity to consider issues from the perspective of others - Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher) with the ability to learn and use relevant software (web-based content management systems such as Cascade; PeopleSoft; online payment processing services such as Moneris) that achieves required outcomes and is
