Environmental Contamination _**_Field Technician_**_ - Ottawa, Canada_**

**Need**:

- Soil sampling during drilling, test pitting and excavation activities.
- Designated and Hazardous Substance Surveys.
- Monitoring and groundwater sampling utilizing a wide variety of equipment.
- Supervision of drillers and other contractors.
- Operation of various types of equipment (e.g. GPS, data loggers, survey level, combustible gas meters, etc.).
- Completion of field documentation such as job safety analysis (JSA) forms, project field reports, field notes, monitoring and chain-of-custody forms.
- Work with project coordinators/managers, using interpersonal and organizational skills to ensure projects are completed on time and budget.
- Over time, the field supervisor would also mentor and provide technical support to more junior field staff, as required.
Work in adverse weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, rain and snow)
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
**REQUIRED **EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE**:

- Degree or Diploma in earth sciences, civil, environmental, chemical, geological engineering or similar programs
- 5+ years of experience as a Field Technician supporting Phase II ESA and contaminant remediation; with experience including supervising drilling, collecting and logging soil samples, collecting groundwater and surface water samples, and overseeing remediation (excavation, insitu chemical injections, etc.)
- Academic and practical experience with soil classification, various drilling methodologies and groundwater sampling methods
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle
- Experience with Designated and Hazardous Substance Surveys
- Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to operate self-sufficiently in the field
**PREFERRED SKILLS**:

- Should be able-bodied as the work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities
- Having the relevant education and desire to obtain a Professional Designation such as a professional engineer or geologist in Ontario would be an asset
- Additional broad environmental experience would be an asset (construction environmental monitoring, air/water sampling, construction oversight, asbestos abatement, etc.)
