To support us on our journey, the Operating Suite (OR) is looking for a Dispatch Assistant to join its team at the Mount Sinai Hospital. Demonstrating superior critical thinking, problem solving and organization skills, the Dispatch Assistant is integral to ensuring the highest efficiency in inventory control. Reporting to the Operations Manager, Perioperative Services, the incumbent plays a key role in coordinating many aspects of perioperative inventory services. As an integral member of the team, the Dispatch Assistant must perform all duties in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Required to use state of the art technology to count inventory in designated locations and ensures par levels are accurate for start of cases the next day.
- Respond to emergency calls from clinical staff in the OR related to surgical supplies and assistance with locating supplies.
- Monitors Pyxis cabinet activity and reports deficiencies, eg missing barcodes, take return buttons, rapidly depleting quotas, item errors etc. to the manager.
- Maintains clean, organized and properly labeled carts.
- Ensures stock items are rotated, to reduce potential of obsolesce and expiry.
- Exercise safe handling/transport of goods throughout the OR
- Other duties as required by Manager consistent with the job classification.
- Job Requirements- Successful completion of Secondary School Diploma required
- 1 year of recent and related experience required
- Experience with inventory distribution and replenishment required
- Experience with Medical/Surgical Supplies preferred
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and read using English in order to effectively perform the requirements of the position
- Ability to use equipment common to the work being performed such as computerized inventory systems, and telephone, etc.
- Ability to adapt to technological changes to perform job function
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and to push replenishment carts up to 100lbs
- Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines
- Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
- Client service oriented, with ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds, and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
