**The Opportunity**:
The Teaching Assistant (TA) is responsible for facilitating informal conversation circles, 2-3 times weekly, using a hybrid format. The TA will help participants develop English language skills and engage in life beyond the Citizenship Test. The conversation circle will engage pending and current clients and graduates of DIVERSEcity’s Civic Engagement and Canadian Citizenship course.

The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for preparing content based on the Discover Canada Guidebook, Canadian (including Indigenous) cultures, histories and communities, and active citizenship (volunteering, voting, civic engagement, inclusive communities). The TA will facilitate discussions between mixed ethnic groups to encourage new social connections, and provide practice for the oral interview of the Citizenship Test. The TA will be responsible for the production of classroom materials.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Recruits and registers participants
- Establishes and maintains rapport with participants by listening, asking questions and showing interest in them as individuals, creating a fun and safe environment
- Works directly with participants either on an individual basis or within small groups
- Works with GOC to develop program resources
- Prepares and duplicates teaching aids and classroom materials
- Ensures digital records are maintained
- Identifies and organizes all necessary materials and equipment
- Facilitates conversation circles, in person and virtually

**Qualifications**:

- TESL certification from a training institute recognized by TESL Canada
- Minimum one (1) year recent and relevant experience
- Experience working with clients in a related field
- Strong interpersonal and English communication skills
- Knowledge of multicultural and settlement issues, especially as they pertain to immigrants and refugees
- Familiarity with the teaching objectives of the Civic Engagement and Canadian Citizenship course
