As one of our core program offerings, ONE TO ONE hosts interactive workshops for parents and caregivers, providing positive reading strategies to support their child(ren)’s at home reading.
ONE TO ONE is looking to engage an educator on a contract basis to co-facilitate in-person parent reading workshops at elementary schools and in community locations across Vancouver and - occasionally - surrounding areas over the course of the 2025-26 school year.
We anticipate hosting 2-3 sessions per week in October and November, and 2-3 sessions per week in February and March, with some flexibility required. Our goal is to serve 750 families and may adjust the frequency or total number of sessions accordingly.
Sessions are 90 minutes long; some administrative work will be required outside of workshop time.
**JOB TITLE**:Parent reading workshop facilitator
**REPORTS TO**: Program manager
**COMPENSATION**:$25.00-28.50/hr
**PRIMARY ROLE**:
Facilitate an informative, robust, and welcoming and informative workshop for parents and guardians/caregivers of students in Grade 1. Provide positive reading strategies for home-reading practice. Workshops will be hosted at elementary schools and partner organizations in Vancouver and, occasionally, surrounding areas.
**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Workshop facilitation - 80%**:
- Facilitate workshops for parents and guardians/caregivers and their children.
- Encourage participation, answer questions, and offer supportive literacy advice to attendees.
- Create an inviting workshop environment. This may include, but is not limited to, setting up PowerPoint and projector, configuring tables and chairs, as well as displaying educational materials and refreshments for participants.
- Track workshop attendance and manage ONE TO ONE newsletter sign-up at workshops to ensure participants can receive timely follow-up and stay in contact with ONE TO ONE.
- Collect hardcopy participant feedback at the end of the session and share with program manager.
**Pre
- and post-workshop administration - 15%**:
- Assist with pre-workshop prep: organizing materials, snacks, projector, laptop, etc.
- Assist the program manager with session scheduling and participant tracking as required.
- Communicate with school and partner contacts to confirm specific workshop-related logistics.
- Communicate regularly with ONE TO ONE staff; share successes and update team on the status of the Parent Reading Workshop program as appropriate.
- Record hours worked and submit a monthly invoice to the program manager.
- Prepare and submit a mid-year and year-end report to the program manager.
- Perform other minor administrative duties as required and approved by the program manager.
**Represent ONE TO ONE in the community - 5%**:
- Represent ONE TO ONE and increase organizational awareness in each of the schools (with staff and workshop attendees) and in the community (with members of our partner organizations and workshop attendees).
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships inside and outside the organization.
- Facilitation and/or public speaking experience.
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with adults in a supportive or educational context; experience with children and/or in B.C. elementary schools an asset.
- Effective computer skills (particularly PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.) Familiarity with Salesforce an asset.
- Strong organizational, planning, coordination and record-keeping skills.
- Access to a laptop computer (PC preferred) for running slide deck during workshops.
- Must have or be able to secure a vulnerable-sector criminal record check.
- Must have a valid B.C. driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 7 months
Pay: $25.00-$28.50 per hour
Expected hours: 3 - 10 per week
