**POSITION TITLE: Recreation Coordinator**
**STATUS: Full Time: one-year term Non-Union**
**DIVISION: Quest Society**
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs, delivers and coaches frontline staff in the delivery of recreation and leisure programming
- Reviews resident plans and communicates relevant information with appropriate staff
- Ensures health and safety procedures are adhered to when staff are assisting participants with recreation and leisure programs
- Performs all administrative tasks necessary to support recreation and leisure program
- Assists with maintaining an inventory of all program equipment and ensures that it is kept in a state of good repair
- Attends and participates in all required meetings and training sessions
- Schedules visits with residents who do not typically attend activities to encourage them to join, or to identify activities they might like to participate in
- Write and post recreation calendars
- State the day and time for recreation activities
- Make copies of the monthly calendar
- Distribute to residents by the 1st of every month
- Distribute to other areas in Quest facilities/homes
- Make calendar available for posting on website
- Organizes and manages outings, social events, and promotes social interaction.
- Liaises with community agencies, volunteer groups, families & friends, and promotes community contact
- Prepares activity areas and maintains resources within established limits.
- Regularly reviews the activity programs to ensure they are appropriate and meeting residents' needs
- Supply and maintain recreation and leisure activity supplies
- Ensure the provision of comprehensive activity programs including evenings and weekends
- Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred or 2-year college diploma/certificate program in recreation, physical education, or a related field
- Working knowledge of community resources, especially those resources focusing on special needs population
- Two years of experience developing, overseeing and conducting recreation programs
- Significant experience working with individuals with special needs/disabilities
- Experience in overseeing multiple programs/locations and staff
- Proven administration, organizational, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Other Qualifications include:
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR and AED
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Standard Food Handlers Training
- Clear Criminal Record Check
- Valid NS Driver's License
- Understanding of the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- Understanding of the Social Model of Support
- Mental Health/Long Term Care experience is an asset
- Life-long learner
- Lifeguard certification considered an asset
WORKING HOURS AND CONDITIONS:
Quest provides around-the-clock support to our residents; therefore, the Recreation Coordinator would be required to work a combination of day shifts and evening Shifts, including weekends and Holidays.
There is a physical component to the position as the employee may be required to assist with lifts and transfers, crisis situations and the demands associated with recreational programming. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and in a variety of public and private parks, buildings and community facilities.
Must have access to own vehicle for transportation.
SALARY RANGE:
$23.00 to $27.50 /hour
