We are looking for an operator to add to our distribution and collection team of hard-working and dedicated individuals. This person will maintain water and wastewater facilities, equipment to allow for the safe and uninterrupted delivery of services to customers, while adhering to industry standards.
If you are an operator with certification in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection with Alberta Environment, educated in water and wastewater sciences, and have at least 1 year of experience in a Level II or higher facility, you are just the operator we are looking for

What are some of the duties of the Maintenance Operator, Utilities?
Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection & Water Distribution
- The incumbent operates, maintains, and monitors the Water Treatment Plant physical process. Collects, analyzes, and interprets onsite water samples for regulatory compliance and plant optimization. Verifies and maintains all physical process control and feedback systems including online instruments, PLC, and SCADA. Oversees the plant QA/QC program, and chemical inventory.
- Operates, maintains, and monitors all satellite wastewater collection facilities, networks, and related appurtenances, while performing regular inspection and maintenance throughout collection system, including wet well maintenance, sewer flushing, CCTV inspection, and power auguring, in addition to compiling and interpreting operating records.
- The Maintenance Operator operates, maintains, and monitors the water distribution system and all satellite distribution facilities, networks and related appurtenances while assisting with the maintenance of water quality objectives throughout the distribution system by monitoring online analyzers and collecting samples for routine in-house analysis, and independent 3rd party testing. Compiles, and interprets and verifies operating records.
- Strive to comply with all standards and guidelines set out in the Alberta Environment Municipal Waterworks, Wastewater, & Storm Drainage Systems documents.
- Provides after-hours service, emergency assistance and on call availability.
- Monitors and adjusts the water treatment processes to meet or exceed the Canadian Drinking Water and Alberta Environment & Protected Areas (EPA) quality standards, through interpretation of chemical and physical analysis of raw and treated water.
- Operates an extensive laboratory QA/QC program based on CAEL standards and maintains the supply of required inventories. Compiles, interprets, and verifies all operating records.
- Monitors, verifies and maintains all physical processes control and feedback systems, including all pump systems, online, flow, level, pressure, pH, temperature, turbidity, chlorine, UV, and particle count instruments.
- Participates in Construction Completion Certificate (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) inspections of water and wastewater systems.
- Provides technical advice to the manager and team members related to job content and organizational requirements.
- Asset Management
Health and Safety
- Where assigned by the Lead, develop, and maintain standard / emergency operating procedures for all process related to the operation of the Cochrane’s water and wastewater systems.
- Ensures all work is performed in accordance with workplace health and safety standards and that all policy, procedures, and legislation required by Cochrane, Province and Federal government’s is adhered to (i.e. toolbox meetings and hazard assessments).
