Baker/cake Decorator

Butter Baked Goods is a nostalgic neighbourhood bakery and café in the beautiful Mackenzie Heights area of Vancouver, and we are looking for an experienced baker with strong cake decorating skills to join our team

As a baker/cake decorator you will perform all duties related to cake, tart, pie and special order decorating, like wedding cakes. Applicants should have a creative flair and attention to detail while adhering to our operating procedures and all applicable health and safety regulations as set out by Vancouver Coastal Health.

**Job Description**:

- Creatively decorating all cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items.
- Assisting with production of all bakery products.
- Producing in-house products to daily standard levels.
- Completing production and spoilage records, adjusting production sheets to maintain sufficient product.
- Ordering, preparing and packaging bakery products for sale.
- Monitoring product quality for freshness and ensuring proper product rotation.
- Arriving to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work; working all scheduled shifts and attending required trainings and meetings.
- Maximizing sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product.
- Following and ensuring compliance with established procedures, including weights and measures, health, sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Maintaining a clean and sanitary working environment inclusive of maintaining equipment in accordance with Vancouver Coastal Health cleanliness and safety standards.
- Performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned.
- Immediately reports safety hazards and violations.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Job Skills
- Passion for baking and cake decorating
- Thorough bakery product and ingredient knowledge.
- Ability to follow directions and established procedures.
- Good cake decorating skills (ability to make flowers and decorative borders; knowledge of elegant piping techniques).
- Basic math skills for recipe conversions and modifications.
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of an experienced, talented team.
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members.
- Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.

Experience
- Minimum/preferably 2 years experience in cake decorating and working in a baked goods production setting.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
- Exposure to Health Canada approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures from freezers, refrigerators and ovens.
- Ability to work weekdays and weekends.
- Ability to use bakery tools and equipment, including mixers, torches, knives and piping bags.
