**Children at Risk, an Ottawa area-based charity supporting families dealing with Autism is hiring staff for it’s Saturday Fun Club, March Break Camp and Camp Kaleidoscope (July/August) These are all dedicated Specialty Programs catering to upwards of 30 youth each week on the Autism Spectrum that require 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 staff to Camper ratio due to behavioural or developmental needs.**

Counsellors are responsible for working with an autistic youth on a one-to-one or one to two ratio in their specific group looking after their daily needs and following the daily program as outlined by the specific group's Group Leader. Activities include but are not limited to: Arts & Crafts; Gym games; Mad science; Life skills such as baking and cooking; challenge activities such as Scavenger Hunts; There may also be weekly off site visits via school buses as well as walks to local parks where there are play structures.

This is a position that requires complete commitment to the Group and to the Camper as minimum Counsellor to Camper ratios must be maintained
- **Essential Job Functions**:_
- Responsible for Camper safety and well being while engaging Camper in scheduled activities both indoors and outdoors. Off site trips may be included in the daily schedule.
- Is responsible for the care and safety of one or two Campers assigned to them each week
- Follows the daily program with their Campers making modifications based on their specific needs
- Communicates on a daily basis with the families of the Campers in their care via a communication log, highlighting achievements made and goals for the following week if that youth is returning.

**Hiring requirements -**
- Experience working with youth in a day program atmosphere an asset
- Previous background/knowledge about working with people with special needs, specifically autism an asset
- Able to communicate effectively in English, other languages a bonus
- Current Social Insurance Number and Work Permits if necessary. Vulnerable Person Police check mandatory if over 18 years of age and a reference letter.
- **NVCI and CPR/First Aid certificates are an asset.**
- **Personal Attributes** - This individual must be:

- Able to run, swim and participate in outdoor water activities
- Calm, Dedicated, Patient & Dependable
- A problem-solver and ability to go with the flow
- Able to work with people in stressful situations
- Being Responsible for Campers requires constant focus so cannot be easily distracted.
- Able to resolve conflicts with others
- and enjoy being with and having fun with youth

This position is ideal for those wishing to follow careers in Child Care or Personal support work, Social Worker, Medical Field, Police or Community services, Language or Occupational therapy, teaching or educational assistance or anyone that enjoys working with youth in a fun capacity and interested in becoming more aware about Autism.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 1 week

Pay: From $17.20 per hour
