**A Day in the Life**
Reporting to the Supervisor, User Services & Engagement, the Engagement Assistant is responsible for supporting the department on promoting Library services, building awareness and initiating engagement and outreach activities. The Engagement Assistant is highly creative, collaborative, and has a strong service ethic. The Engagement Assistant manages the Library’s social media accounts, develops physical and virtual promotional / informational materials, and acts as a first point of contact for users and assists with research and general inquires.
**As the** **Engagement Assistant, you will**:
- Work with members of the department to develop short
- and long-term strategy for promotion and engagement/outreach activity;
- Develop and deliver departmental engagement initiatives (e.g., events, workshops, experiential programming, co-curricular programming, etc.);
- Manage the Library’s social media platforms (e.g., create original content, monitor and respond to posts and Library news blogs, review, follow and share Brock and other industry media posts, etc.);
- Liaise with the university’s Marketing and Communication department and campus social media coordinators to stay current with social media best practices and Brock policies;
- Develop promotional and informational material for the library’s physical and virtual spaces, (e.g., signage, digital displays, blogs, exhibits, physical and virtual book displays, etc.);
- Act as a content editor for the department by, writing, revising, and updating the library website;
- Act as the first point of contact for all users by responding to inquiries in-person, online, or by telephone at the Ask Us Desk;
- Assist users in locating, using, and borrowing library material, including retrieval, distribution, check-out, check-in, shelving, and shelf-reading of material (books, reserve readings, audio-visual items, and other electronic equipment);
- Instruct library users in using all library collections, online catalogue and databases, Internet resources, and how to formulate search terms. Refer to librarians and others as appropriate;
- Provide technical support to users operating equipment, such as computers, all-in-one printers/scanners/photocopiers, self-check machine, microform reader/printer; troubleshoot problems; refer to Library Systems and Technologies staff as necessary;
- Conduct orientation tours for students, as required, to outline the library resources and services, and may be involved in the delivery of, or team teaching of instructional workshops.
**What you need to Succeed**
- Bachelor’s degree;
- A minimum of two (2) years relevant experience;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to ensure accurate and professional public
- facing digital content, including knowledge of ‘writing for the web’ principles and best practices;
- Thorough understanding of traditional, online, and social media, with the ability to stay current on social media trends;
- Knowledge of a broad array of information resources and proficiency in searching library catalogues, electronic databases, and the open web;
- Strong computer literacy and technical aptitude in order to assist users and troubleshoot;
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Teams);
- Ability to learn independently and keep pace with the changing information environment;
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills;
- Flexibility and sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse user population;
- Strong collaboration skills, and ability to seek and incorporate feedback;
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills: Ability to organize work and establish priorities;
**Preferred or Asset Skills**:
- 1-2 years experience working in an academic library;
- Two-year Library Technician Diploma;
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e., communications, media) is preferred.
**Salary and Benefit Information**
- Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($52,765 - $71,040);
- This position includes full comprehensive benefits and tuition waiver.
