**WHAT YOU'LL DO**

The Headstart Assistant will be responsible for (under the guidelines of the Headstart Program and under supervision of a licensed ECE):

- Participate in culturally appropriate activities and experiences for the children.
- Participate in providing a safe (emotionally and physically), healthy environment, flexible routines, record keeping, parental involvement, community support and the planning of developmentally appropriate experiences.
- Assist in daily activities like cooking, cleaning etc.
- Follow the center’s procedures for maintaining health records and for administrating medication.
- Report all accidents, injuries and illness to the Supervisor, and record such incidents in the communication book.
- Report all cases of (suspected) child abuse and or neglect to the Supervisor and/or follow center’s policy for reporting.
- Participate in field trips.
- Contribute to the ongoing operation of the center.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings as required.
- Provide general administrative and clerical support for routine office tasks;
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Manager, Director, or the Education Director.

**WHAT YOU BRING**

**Education and certification**
- Completion of High school.
- Standard First Aid and CPR certifications would be is considered an asset.

**Experience**
- Experience working with First Nations children would be an asset.
- Excellent customer service skills.

**Skills, attributes and abilities**
- Ability to build positive relationships with children.
- Ability to balance competing priorities and to work under pressure.
- Highly flexible, and detail-oriented.
- High professional and ethical standards.
- Warm and personable.
- Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures.
- Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations community and children is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check.
