PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) is a National Indigenous Organization representing the political voice of Indigenous Women, girls, Two-Spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse people in Canada, inclusive of First Nations on and off reserve, status, and non-status, disenfranchised, Métis, and Inuit. NWAC was founded on the collective goal to enhance, promote, and foster the social, economic, cultural, and political well-being of Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse people within their respective communities and Canadian societies.

SUMMARY

The Project Coordinator (Indigenous Languages Project) will work under the authority and supervision of the Senior Director of Executive Policy and will provide support to NWAC’s Indigenous Languages Project.

The Project Coordinator (Indigenous Languages Project) will support NWAC’s project titled “Increasing Indigenous Language Accessibility for Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, Transgender and Gender-Diverse People” This position will engage in activities that support community accessibility to Indigenous language resources and workshops, as well as engage in coordination and attendance of meetings and/or events related to Indigenous languages.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Coordinator (Indigenous Languages Project) will:

- Facilitate the translation and dissemination of resources in Indigenous languages;
- Engage with various partners, libraries, schools, and Indigenous organizations to support the dissemination of language resources through effective networking strategies;
- Provide support to the Library/Archives Specialist in the management and maintenance of NWAC’s online and in-person library;
- Support in planning in-person events/workshops that seek to promote Indigenous languages;
- Participate in and represent NWAC at various meetings and/or events with rightsholders and stakeholders and report outcomes to Sr. Director;
- Support the Sr. Director with project reporting processes, including the development of progress, annual and final reports.

Other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Sciences or other related studies;
- Master’s Degree is an asset;
- Experience working or volunteering with Indigenous peoples, groups, or organizations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

The Project Coordinator (Indigenous Languages Project) must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and diverse cultures, histories, and traditions is required
- Awareness of initiatives or policies that seek to increase the accessibility of Indigenous language resources is a strong asset
- Some understanding of social policy issues that impact Indigenous women and girls in Canada (including violence prevention, housing, etc.) is an asset

Skills & Abilities

The Project Coordinator (Indigenous Languages Project) must demonstrate the following skills:

- Excellent writing and communication skills in English is essential.
- Writing and verbal communication in French and/or an Indigenous language is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations to various groups of rightsholders and stakeholders is an asset
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and short deadlines is essential

Working Conditions

Here are some specific considerations regarding the organization's working conditions:

- Preference to work onsite at 120 Promenade du Portage, Gatineau, Quebec;
- Travel within Canada maybe required;
- Overtime may be required at times (hours must be pre-approved by supervisor);
- Employees are expected to multi-task with possible interruptions from colleagues, management or other people.

**Salary range: $70,000 - $75,000 per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience.**

**Position Classification: Full-Time, Term Position, ending March 31 2025.**
