**Nupqu Resource Limited Partnership**, associated with Ktunaxa Enterprises Ltd, is a growing First Nations owned business. With offices in Cranbrook, Castlegar and Fernie, BC, Nupqu conducts a wide variety of work: providing environmental, biological, archaeological, forestry, contract management and safety related consulting services to a variety of clients throughout the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory. We are currently seeking a highly motivated, organized, and responsible individual to join our team in a dynamic and rewarding environment.

Nupqu is seeking a Professional (Wildlife/Aquatic/Fisheries focused) Biologist to provide science-based leadership and mentorship to a diverse array of wildlife, aquatic/fisheries, terrestrial and wetland habitat, and vegetation assessment programs and studies. This is a **full-time, project-based** position based out of our **Fernie office**. This position will collaborate closely with Project Managers and report to the **Operations Manager and Environmental Division Lead**. The work schedule will be **Monday to Friday**.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITES**:

- Complete various field programs throughout the Kootenays of British Columbia and collect field data including but not limited to, freshwater aquatics, marine aquatics, wildlife surveys, land cover and habitat classification, vegetation surveys, soils, or water quality sampling.
- Environmental field support through monitoring activities, assessing compliance with environment permits, regulatory requirements, legislation, government approvals, and project environmental protection plans, including auditing and providing onsite guidance to contractors.
- Assist analysis of data and in preparation of technical reports and memos related to environmental assessments on various sites, as required.
- Collaborate with and assist project managers and team members as required.
- Demonstrated collaborative approach to complete projects on schedule, on budget, and to the quality and specifications outlined by project managers, clients, and legislation.
- Office/Field lead for fish and aquatic and/or wildlife related projects (biology focus)
- Report writing and compilation to support environmental monitoring, ecological assessments, proposals, permitting and restoration prescriptions
- Communicating openly and professionally with our team and with our clients
- Prioritizing and multitasking in a fast-paced environment, balancing the urgency of completing reports with other project deadlines
- Lead a small team of direct reports (2-3) pertaining to biology specific work
- Participate in business development and client relationship management
- At times, general project management duties, status reports, financial reporting, invoicing, client liaison may be required - limited involvement in day to day PM administration duties with PM support in place

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- An MSc in wildlife/aquatic biology plus five or more years of natural resource sector experience, or a BSc in wildlife/aquatic biology plus seven or more years of natural resource sector experience. Previous consulting experience is an asset.
- Registered as a Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio).
- Ability to provide proof of education and professional designation/certificates

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

- Effective oral and written interpersonal communication skills.
- Problem solver, willing to learn, and safety-oriented team player.
- Willing to work in remote field locations under all weather conditions with a positive attitude.
- Strong management skills with experience leading and mentoring staff and teams.
- Mentoring junior biology staff
- Capable of using a tablet in the field to complete digital forms and navigation.
- GIS knowledge considered an asset.
- Ability to work and/or travel for extended and irregular periods, in all seasons and terrain types, often in remote settings, using a variety of vehicle types e.g., trucks, ATV's/UTV’s, snowmobiles, and boats.
- Experience in executing electrofishing and fish salvages.
- Experience in executing field programs as part of environmental studies; experience in executing terrestrial wildlife, herptile, aquatic/fish and bird surveys will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements will be considered an asset.
- Commitment to project quality and project deadlines.
- Ability to execute professional reports with professional sign-off.

**KPI’s**:

- 80% billable, 20% non-billable or admin based
- Work up to and manage a team of 2-3 biology specific staff members

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
