**Trail Crew Manager / Lead Builder**
**Background**
The Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association (SORCA) is a volunteer-run not for profit organization that advocates for mountain biking in Squamish BC. Our trails network sits on the territory of the Squamish
Nation, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw. From Cheshire Cat to Labour of Love we ride on their territory. In many cases, this land is now owned by the Squamish Nation under colonial definition of “ownership”.
With this in mind we are dedicated to building a respectful and reciprocal relationship with the Squamish
Nation. SORCA has approximately 3400 members to which our organization serves yet through partnership agreements, we are responsible for maintaining and growing an enjoyable and safe network to enjoy.
This is a hands-on management position with a minimum of 60% of the role expected to be physically undertaking and leading trail maintenance work.

**Primary Responsibilities**
- Being part of the team to foster a positive attitude about mountain biking in Squamish
- Lead, participate, prioritize day-to-day activities within operational plan, manage tools, conduct regular trail maintenance
- Along with the Lead Hand, schedule work crews, planning daily work activities, and monitoring the work being done
- Recruitment, hiring, training, performance manage and termination of trail crew with support from
Executive Director
- Ensure Trail Crew stays within approved budget and achieve operational goals
- Conduct daily health and safety briefs with the trail crew
- Arrange first aid, chainsaw operation and other related courses for trail crew
- Ensure proper documentation of trail maintenance activities
- Scheduling and planning of the trail crew and any contractors selected for specific projects
- In conjunction with the Executive Director, ensure SORCA produces all trails related deliverables for the relevant land manager and owner agreements
- Inspire both experienced and inexperienced volunteers to contribute to
Squamish’s trail network in both small and larger group settings
- Tool, equipment and vehicle management (inventory, operating order, purchasing, repairs etc.)
- Organize, and lead a minimum of 1 per month (April to October) volunteer trail maintenance days
(mix of weekday and weekends) in collaboration with Director of Trails, sponsors, and community engagement manager
- Monitor TrailForks and other platforms for the user trail reports and address and respond in a timely fashion
- Provide monthly trail crew reports (April to October) to the Executive Director to be circulated to the membership on relevant trail maintenance and building activities
- Provide feedback to the Executive Director and Trails Committee related to the annual SORCA trail crew operational plan
- Work with the Executive Director to prioritize, obtain approval for and execute maintenance and trail construction projects.
- If funds are made available during the year, work with the Executive Director to identify trail projects in need work
**Additional responsibilities**
- Actively communicate with volunteer builders to ensure there is awareness of ongoing projects within the trails network
- In partnership with the executive director, contribute and make recommendations to the long term trail network planning, permitting and major project identification
- Maintain good relationships with key trail builders (contractors and volunteers) and the trail building community
- Other tasks requested from the Executive Director
- Passion for mountain biking, the outdoors and sustainable trails
- Ability to manage,train and mentor a team
- Previous trail building and carpentry skills
- Experience in a leadership role
- Experience with wilderness safety
- Being a problem-solver and coming up with creative solutions
- Being team player and customer service-oriented
- Being organized
- Positive attitude, outlook and team player
- High level of responsibility and the ability to work autonomously
- Posess a valid driver's license and safe driving record
- Experience working with contractors and other stakeholders
- First Aid certificate and chainsaw training an asset
- Ability to lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.

**Wages and benefits**
**Time requirement**:40 Hours a week, with some work week and seasonal flexibility
