Overnight Manager

Cornerstone offers emergency shelter and affordable supportive housing in four residential facilities for women experiencing homelessness, poverty, mental illness, addictions, trauma and abuse in Ottawa. Our services are offered in an environment which promotes dignity and a sense of hope. **Job Summary**

The Overnight Manager is responsible for the coordination of overnight services and programs at the Women's Shelter and is available to support staff at all Cornerstone locations while on shift. The Overnight Manager supports the work of overnight and weekend employees and volunteers to improve social functioning, physical, mental & emotional health and general wellbeing of residents.

**1. Resident Services and Program Delivery**
- Provides onsite and/or remote support to all Cornerstone locations in case of staffing shortages or emergencies
- Ensures compliancy with health and safety protocols including but not limited to; infection control, medication, first aid, naloxone and inventory of safety equipment including but not limited to PPE
- Provides support with room checks to address safety concerns and other concerns
- Liaises with maintenance, EMS, security and other emergency service providers as required
- Collaborates with JOHSC and acts as a back-up management representative to address safety concerns on the overnight shift
- Regularly updates and reviews orientation, safety, and other operational manuals
- Supports the overnight Support Workers in implementing care plans for residents, as developed by the Case Manager
- Supports and guides front-line employees in mediating conflicts, resolving complaints and crisis intervention with residents
- Ensures house guidelines are maintained and upheld
- Ensures emergency protocols and safety measures are upheld
- Leads emergency response and evacuation as necessary on the overnight shift and ensures all related policies and procedures are up to date
- Responds to and records serious incidents according to City and Cornerstone protocols
- Conducts weekly review of all incident reports and ensuring reports are filed managed and forwarded to the Director of Programs and Services
- Collaborates with Humans Resources to conduct annual workplace hazard assessments for Shelter positions
- Leads WSIB claims processing for occurrences during the overnight shift and conducts follow up with the Human Resources Manager
- Supports the well-being of overnight staff by leading debriefing discussions and other wellness activities
- Reviews intake and ensure completeness and conduct follow-up
- Other duties as operationally required

**2. Personnel Management**
- Provides ongoing support and mentoring to overnight employees, including relief and part-time staff predominantly at the Women’s Shelter but is available to staff at all Cornerstone locations while on shift or on-call
- Supervises the overnight shelter staff and conducts performance reviews or address performance concerns as they arise
- Acts as the main point of contact for all sick calls, critical incidents and occupational illnesses or injuries on the overnight
- Provides regular safety check-ins to Supportive Housing staff at other locations
- Leads training and orientation for all new hires and ongoing training for overnight staff
- Organizes and leads regular team meetings with overnight staff.
- Provides support with the recruitment process as required
- Works with employees to create a welcoming, non-judgmental atmosphere which seeks to avoid removing residents from the shelter whenever possible
- Liaises with Human Resources to resolve HR issues for the overnight staff
- Replaces Shelter Manager in their absence or as her designate
- Implements the collective agreement
- Ensures good communication between shifts and staff teams across houses

**3. Administration**
- Reviews operational policies and procedures on a quarterly and annual basis and make recommendations for revisions
- Reviews incident reports, case notes and other documentation to ensure proper actions and steps have taken place
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of HIFIS entries and supportive bed list
- Ensures accurate and timely implementation of intake processes, including SPDATS and recording information into HIFIS data
- Provides input to the budget planning of The Women’s Shelter
- Participates as a member of the Cornerstone Administrative Team as required
- Participates in Managers on-call rotation as required
- Ensures compliance with legislative, contractual and health and safety standards
- Ensures effective communication with the Senior Managers; meets and provides reports to the Senior Managers as required
- Supports the Shelter Manager with bi-weekly payroll
