Project Director, Generation Asset Investments

Position Summary:
The Project Director will lead the execution of generation asset investment initiatives, including feasibility, acquisition, and development of energy storage and natural gas-fired generation projects. This role will oversee cross-functional teams, manage external consultants, and ensure alignment with ATCO Energy’s strategic hedging and risk mitigation objectives. The Project Director will also support future investment decisions over a multi-year horizon.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and coordinate all phases of project development from feasibility through to Final Investment Decision (FID).
- Identify and evaluate acquisition or joint venture opportunities, including site options and stalled projects.
- Oversee project deliverables, timelines, and budgets across internal and external teams.
- Collaborate with consultants (e.g., Boost, Power-Team) to ensure technical, commercial, and regulatory feasibility drawing in the required expertise to achieve the best outcomes.
- Manage cost and schedule performance, ensuring timely progression to Go/No-Go and FID milestones.
- Support the development of business cases, including risk-adjusted returns and capital structure recommendations.
- Liaise with legal, environmental, engineering, and financial stakeholders to ensure integrated project execution.
- Maintain secure document handling and communication protocols.
- Contribute to strategic planning and investment roadmap development for future generation assets.

Qualifications:

- 20+ years of experience in energy infrastructure, project development, or asset investment.
- MBA and or engineering degree and PMP certification are considered an asset
- Proven track record managing complex, multi-phase capital projects.
- Possess a mix of technical and commercial skills and aptitude to work well in all workstreams.
- Strong understanding of Alberta’s energy regulatory environment (AUC, AESO) and energy markets.
- 10+ years experience in Business Development and Commercial Contract Management.
- Breadth of experience in project managing energy storage and gas-fired generation development projects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
