**About Us**
Since 1999, Precious Minds has been providing CARE, SUPPORT & HOPE to children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities in North Durham. We offer programs designed to engage, inspire, and develop skills for life. We provide individualized levels of support to ensure that each participant has the best experience possible. Our programs explore a variety of educational, physical, recreational, and social activities in a positive and safe environment. We provide support for the entire family including educational resources, respite, and family events.
**Position Summary**
**Program Goals**
The _Skills for Life_ program focuses on five key developmental areas:
1. **Foster Creativity and Artistic Expression**
- Provide meaningful opportunities for participants to explore visual arts, crafts, and creative self-expression.
- **Promote Skill-Building and Community Preparedness**:
- Help participants develop practical skills that support independence and workplace/community involvement.
- **Encourage Healthy Lifestyles**:
- Teach physical wellness, healthy eating habits, and self-care through interactive and engaging activities.
- **Support Social Skills and Community Belonging**:
- Build interpersonal and friendship skills through group activities and inclusive social interaction.
- **Celebrate Individual Growth and Identity**:
- Create a respectful environment that values the strengths and potential of every individual.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Program Planning & Facilitation**
- Develop, organize, and lead weekly activities in the areas of art, physical wellness, culinary, skill-building, and social engagement.
- Customize programming to meet diverse participant needs and goals.
- Prepare materials, supplies, and documentation for each session.
**Participant Engagement & Support**
- Provide hands-on, individualized support that encourages participation and skill development.
- Use positive behaviour support and inclusive practices to promote a sense of belonging.
- Adapt activities as needed to ensure accessibility for all participants.
**Health & Safety Oversight**
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive program environment.
- Administer First Aid or respond to emergencies as required.
- Follow health and safety protocols and guidelines.
**Monitoring & Communication**
- Track attendance, engagement, and participant progress.
- Communicate regularly with caregivers, families, and the Executive Director.
- Maintain accurate documentation and provide reports as needed.
**Collaboration & Administration**
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to enhance the program.
- Use tools such as Microsoft Office, MailChimp, Salesforce, and Zoom for communication and documentation.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and organizational events as required.
**Qualifications and Skills**
- College or University diploma in a related field.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Energetic, passionate, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
- Strong understanding of the social/emotional and physical needs of adults with developmental disabilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MailChimp, Salesforce, Zoom.
- Valid certifications in Standard First Aid and CPR C; Safe Management Training (or equivalent).
- Current criminal background check including vulnerable sector screening is required.
