**About the Role**:
With funding from Employment Nova Scotia, the YMCA Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centres deliver comprehensive employment services to support individuals in finding and maintaining meaningful employment. This summer position will specifically support the Head Start program—a youth employability initiative designed to help junior high and high school students explore careers, develop workplace skills, and gain valuable volunteer experience.

**As a Job Search Assistant you will**:

- Facilitate career exploration and skill-building workshops for junior high and high school youth
- Plan and organize program activities, events, and workshops
- Chaperone and supervise youth during volunteer placements (e.g. with day camps)
- Maintain accurate attendance and participation records
- Assist with tracking training allowances and ensuring completion of program components
- Support and mentor youth to encourage engagement, growth, and confidence
- Greet and sign in clients at the Resource Centre
- Update and maintain the job board with current postings
- Provide support with computer use, printing, scanning, faxing, and photocopying
- Help clients navigate basic technology and troubleshoot minor issues
- Support other administrative and program-related tasks as required
- Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment aligned with YMCA values

**Education & Skills Qualifications**:

- Student, returning to school in the fall
- Knowledge of community programs and resources
- Proven ability to work with unemployed individuals facing barriers to finding and maintaining employment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License or access to reliable transportation
- Problem Solving: identifies an issue, gathers and processes relevant information, comes up with possible solutions, selects appropriate responses and implements them.
- Diversity: Appreciates that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring a richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
- Sense of Community: Demonstrates an awareness and understanding of communities and responds to their needs; networks with local community agencies to determine strategic alliances and partnerships; knows local community leaders; serves a diverse range of individuals and groups in the community.
- Teamwork: Participates actively in a team for organization effectiveness.

**To Apply**:

- Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check (less than 6 months old), if 18 years of age or older
- Attend Child Safeguarding Training upon hire
- Valid First Aid and CPR Training
