**This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).**
In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $69,169 to $115,281.
**Location -**This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

**Position Summary**
We’re seeking a Research Development Officer to help propel the Faculty of Engineering’s research and internationalization initiatives The role offers the opportunity to collaborate with Associate Deans, professionals, and researchers to develop strategic research initiatives, proposals, and partnerships. The role involves supervising the large grant and technical writing team, managing research operational programs such as the Dean’s Research Awards and Graduate Research Symposium, and fostering collaboration with industry, government, research students and staff, and professors.
The Research Development Officer will play a key role in growing research centers, connecting faculty members with funding opportunities, and enhancing the Faculty’s research profile.
**Duties**
**Research Program Operations**
- Monitor, analyze, and report on the portfolio’s financial position; assist in budget development.
- Develop and implement yearly action plans and resource distribution strategies.
- Lead major research operational programs, including grants, awards, and symposiums.
- Foster continuous improvement in governance, policies, and processes for research initiatives.
**Supervisor & Talent Management**
- As a supervisor, build and oversee a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing team that supports the large grants and technical writing for the Faculty of Engineering.
- Mentor and guide support staff, including the Executive Assistant.
- Recruit and oversee temporary research staff.
- Set clear performance expectations, provide feedback, and support staff development.
**Relationship Management**
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with external research organizations, including industry and government agencies.
- Strengthen internal collaborations across the university to enhance research excellence and integration.
- Engage with funding agencies and stakeholder organizations to align research priorities.
**Research Development, Assessment & Promotion**
- Maintain an inventory of faculty research strengths, expertise, and facilities.
- Track and analyze research performance metrics and global benchmarks.
- Organize research workshops, industry engagement, and promotion strategies.
- Develop and distribute research communications, including newsletters and presentations.
- Support faculty members in securing prestigious research awards and funding from granting agencies and industry
- Serve as a liaison for research centers and institutes, providing strategic guidance.
- Assist in the development and growth of new research centers.
**Internationalization**
- Coordinate international research collaborations and funding opportunities.
- Engage with global partners, governments, and institutions to establish strategic initiatives.
- Plan and host visiting delegations to foster international research connections.
**Minimum Qualifications**
- A graduate degree in Science or Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience.
