Job Summary
The Marketing & Communications Specialist works with Student Hospitality and Community Services (SHCS) to develop and implement strategies for communications with students, staff and other key audiences. SHCS is a large self-funded ancillary division within UBC's Vice-President, Students portfolio, and oversees Student Housing, Food Services, Bookstore, Conferences and Accommodations, Parking and Access, Child Care Services and Campus Mail.
The Specialist leads the development of annual and long-term marketing and communications plans that align with unit goals and support key areas identified in the UBC Strategic Plan. The Specialist oversees multiple SHCS communication channels, works with the SHCS Marcom Team to generate appropriate ideas, and executes a wide-range of marketing and communications campaigns and materials by liaising with staff, students, and departments.
The Specialist moves seamlessly between high-impact marketing projects, communications strategy and integrated communications. The selection of innovative communication channels that can effectively deliver key messages and meet the needs of primary target audiences and client goals is a crucial responsibility of this position.
This position will focus primarily on providing marketing and communications support for UBC Food Services - a dynamic portfolio that includes 20+ retail operations and multiple residence dining rooms, all guided by progressive values with respect to wholesome, nutritious and sustainable food offerings. The Specialist will also provide support to Bookstore, Conferences and Accommodations and Parking. The SHCS portfolio will enable the successful applicant to create real positive change to students and the UBC community through creative communications and digital marketing strategies, all while working with a collaborative group of Marketing and Communications professionals.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Marketing and Digital Content, Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS), and works closely with peers from both Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. The Specialist will collaborate regularly with colleagues in the VP Communications and Student Communications Portfolio and others across campus as required. The Specialist may supervise staff involved in marcom projects, including Work Learn students. This position may also work closely with service providers on

Work Performed
Marketing and Communications Plan Development and Measurement
In consultation with key stakeholders, develops strategic marketing and communication plans for approval that reflect and support achievement of unit goals and objectives and includes key message development, asset creation, as well as strategies, tactics, budgets, timelines and success metrics.
Plans and creates digital, social and print content plans that raises awareness as well as drives revenue and engagement.
Assesses the effectiveness of established marketing and communications plan and makes recommendations for future.
Project Management and Coordination
Develops, manages and executes campaigns (i.e. We Dig Good Food, Nutrition Month etc.) and other marketing and communications projects to ensure they meet established timelines, budgets, goals and objectives.
Coordinates workflow between members of project teams, including communication channels, content contributors, user experience specialists, and external consultants.
Communicates with key stakeholders with respect to project status, develops contingency plans and negotiates any necessary changes to timelines and deliverables.
