Pioneer Manor serves residents 18 years of age and older who have long-term health care needs and who are no longer able to manager in independent living situations. As the largest facility of its kind in North Eastern Ontario, Pioneer Manor is home to 433 residents who are provided with supervision 24 hours a day.

**Characteristic Duties**: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Therapeutic Services with day-to-day clinical direction from the Occupational Therapist or the Physiotherapist.
1. Assist the Occupational Therapist and the Physiotherapist in individual acute care and therapeutic programs.
2. Organize and carry out therapeutic group and individualized programs as directed.
3. Receive and prepare residents for treatment and proceed with treatment within the guidelines of the established program.
4. Administer active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, and heat, light, sound, water and electrical modality treatments such as ultrasound, as directed.
5. Train residents in the use of orthopaedic braces, prostheses and mobility devices.
6. Observe residents during treatments, report on residents’ responses and progress; communicate results in accordance with established procedures to the supervising therapist.
7. Adapt the physical and functional activities of residents to develop and optimize rehabilitative potential.
8. Transport residents to and from treatment areas, lifting and transferring them according to the Home Policies and Procedures.
9. Assist in the fabrication of adaptive equipment and provide instruction to the resident/family/staff regarding the use of this equipment.
10. Document progress and program plan on resident’s chart in accordance with the Home Policies and Procedures.
11. Work collaboratively with other staff members for the provision of programs.
12. Attend mandatory educational in-services; attend multi-disciplinary, sectional and Home meetings as required.
13. Record treatment statistics daily. Organize Section statistics daily, compile data and submit monthly.
14. Maintain inventory of treatment supplies. Order and store supplies to be used for treatment programs.
15. Maintain the Section in a safe and tidy condition; prepare, clean and maintain equipment and supplies. Assist with maintaining equipment inventory; set up, modify, maintain equipment; train residents and staff as required.
16. Sit on internal committees as appropriate (e.g. Fall Prevention, Minimal Lift, Responsive Behaviours).
17. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
18. Perform other related duties as required.
**Qualifications**:
- Successful completion of an Occupational Therapy Assistant / Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) post-secondary diploma, or equivalent qualifications, from a recognized Community College.
- Additional diploma or degree in another health related field is an asset.
- Up to six (6) months of related experience.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and related regulations.
- Knowledge of best practices within areas of responsibility.
- Demonstrate organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and time manage in a busy work environment.
- Demonstrate excellent creative problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work co-operatively with others.
- Mental and physical fitness to perform essential job functions.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
- Provide, at own cost, a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Provide, at own cost, a Two-Step Mantoux Test (TB).
- Provide, at own cost, N95 mask fitting.
